UPDATE ON TO 35.

It is around 1956 model so you guys were correct

I replaced the coil with a new 12 volt, useing a 12 volt battery now.

She is spinning and rotating the engine with no problem.

I recleaned the fuel lines and had gas going up to carb but no further.

Removed carb and cleaned now have gas flowing to carb

I can spray starting fluid in carb and she will fire until starting fluid is used up then she dies.

Now to get the gas right going into cylinders.

Not giving up: today was an encouraging day.

If your 12 volt coil does not have an internal resistor you will have to install an external one. The image below shows a 6 volt coil system using a 12 volt battery the owner opted to use a ballast resister to lower the voltage requirement from 12 to 6 volts instead of replacing the 6 volt coil.

The 12 volt coil requires a resister, older cars had a wire from the starter solenoid going to the power side of the 12 volt coil that would supply a full 12 volts to the coil during the starting phase, once the ignition switch released from the start position to run power to the coil was fed through the resister to lower the supplied voltage to the coil.

The idea behind supplying a full 12 volts to the coil during the starting phase was that it would give a lively spark to the spark plugs which would aid in cold weather starting, however the coil is not able to handle a full 12 volts for long periods, it will heat up and the engine will misfire and run like crap.

Below is a wiring schematic of how the full 12 volts was supplied to the ignition coil during the start phase, notice that the full 12 volts is fed into the coil power circuit after the resister which in this case resister wire was used in place of a ballast resister,

Thank you for the input.

The engine will fire up and run for 30-40 second like a charm. I can use the choke with starting fluid and that is when it will run smooth .

I pulled the plugs and all were dry no gasoline on either of the plugs. I think if I get gas to cylinders she will stay cranked and run.

Tomorrow I will start at gas tank and clean system all the way to carb and hope for the best. The new coil has a resistor.

UPDATE ON FERGUSON 35:

To all of you that gave me input and insight on the tractor , I humbly thank each of you.

After sitting up for 3 years this tractor this tractor finally cranked and ran . I had to clean and flush fuel system several times. She is runing a little rough but I am thinking I just need to run it and do a little tweaking here and there may flush out cooling system and fuel system several more times. Thank you all for the info . I now have the mf 135 runing smooth and the ferguson 35 is runing. Proud man here and grateful to all of you!!!

I have a To30 that I got 25 years ago. It came with a 12v battery and a six volt starter. How long it was used that way is anyone,s guess. It's still that way with no issues.
