Ok. The grooves help a fair amount but it wasn't radically better as many of you predicted.

Now the kid that mows for me sometimes ripped the heck out of the sidewall of one of the tires. I'm going to take this opportunity to replace both tires.

Should I go with an aggressive lug like this:
Set of 2 SunF A027 ATV Tire 20x10-10 20x10x10, 6 Ply Amazon.com: Set of 2 SunF A27 ATV Tire 2x1-1 2x1x1, 6 Ply: Automotive

Or a bar tread like this:

Lugs look large on this bar Tire they will tear up your yard. I would look at the bar on the grasshopper Tire. A little bit thinner and not so aggressive.

I agree with 2ndhalf. Look for a Carlisle AT101 tire in your size. If Carlisle doesn't make it in that size, try Kenda or OTR. I know both of them make a version of the AT101 bar lug tire.

I've got them on my Grasshopper, and like them a lot. Excellent traction, but they don't tear up the turf.

I actually can't find ANY bar tires for my low profile wheels. 20x10-10 is not the most common size.

I did look at all the manufacturers Pappy suggested.

I couldn't see the "ply" rating on the bar tire and would be prone to seek out the soft, low psi ATV type tire that might do less spinning damage, but to contradict myself, during a "zero turn" with one side pivoting around the other (the inside tire twisting in place) it might have be too chunky to prevent damage??
Glad to offer you absolutely no help Luke.:drink:

I gave up trying to use my Scag Wildcat with 61" Velocity deck on my hilly terrain.
Had too many close calls when the mower decided to bolt down whatever hill it saw as its means of trying to buck me like a bull in the ring.

Went to a Husky AWD 322T Ride mower. Haven't looked back. It climbs and can go down hills the Scag would have wanted to flip or roll me on, and because of AWD and articulated design allows me to not give a thought to what the conditions of the lawn might be, beyond reasonable precautions for any mowing. Wet, damp or other grass is no problem. I've used it 2 years now, and feel comfortable with my wife driving it too. There is NO WAY I'd have ever let her on the Scag - I plan on keeping her around for the foreseeable future. The Scag, not so much.

If I had better assessed what I really needed and what was best suited to my terrain I never would have bought the ZT. I didn't do any real research, it was more of I see those everywhere on landscape crew trailers etc. They must be the gold standard. Well, not for hilly or wet grass.
I liked the Scag; it's a great strong mower but ZT's just aren't suited to certain terrain, as you've been pushing the risk envelope for 2 years I needn't say more.

CM,
Much of what you say is true... But if I suggested to my wife buying a different mower I won't need to worry about the mower killing me! Lol.

Rusty,
I had the same mental conversion with myself. The lower profile lugs suggested by Pappy and 2ndhalf seemed like the voice of experience. Problem is I can't find any manufacturer that makes them for my wheels.

Currently I am considering these two. Any thoughts?

Both of those SunF tires look WAY to aggressive for a zero turn. The Carlisle All Trail ATV tires might work, but you'd have to be careful on turns. If you're good at doing 3-point turns on the zero turn, you might be ok with them.
