I see speed queens in college dorm laundry rooms all over the place.... that tells you something. They can take a beating.

This information came too late. I've already got new machines coming and I'm not sure I'd buy from the closest dealer being over 200 miles away. Makes you wonder why so few dealers. Mom's Speed Queen lasted over 40 years but nobody uses wringer washers anymore.

All old school washers in the family with some dating from the 60's...

Not price, the basic new speed queen was close to $900 the new digital kenmore about $500.

Yes, the kenmore lasted 5 years only before it broke and would have been less expensive to replace than repair.

Maybe I need to get a Speedqueen. We had to replace our top load washer a couple years ago and my wife hates the new one. She likes to be able to soak the clothes when needed, the one we got was supposed to be one that could be manually filled (instead of auto) higher but still wouldn't cover a normal load and max water. The thing also sounds like there's a bearing going when it's spinning it's max speed.

The mechanical speed queen has a soak mode, if you didn't already know that.
