It certainly could be an improvement

I would be interested in how the update works. When I have the forks on my 2538 it is almost impossible to make small adjustments with the joystick.

That is something I have fought since day 1, with loads less than about 250lbs its just a bit to jerky. Just like you it was with the forks, the bucket did better. One thing that did help though was to remove the check valve and clean it. Mine had a bunch of metal shavings in there and it got a little better.

You may need the power beyond plug. I bought a [too] large control valve for mine, that has a third spool to control a grapple or, in my case, a tree puller. Unfortunately, my valve will flow 25 gpm, so it will lose much sensitivity. But, as on your tractor (mine is a 2540), the factory valve is nearly on/off in operation, and the length of the lever in the new valve is much greater. We'll see, if I can't deal with it I'll build up a smaller valve from surpluscenter.

Thinking of changing the loader valve on my 2538 to this one.

2 SPOOL COMPACT 1 GPM JOYSTICK CONTROL VALVE | Directional Control Valves | Hydraulic Valves | Hydraulics | www.surpluscenter.com

Adds a regen function as well as being a parallel valve so lift and curl work better at one time. It would be nice if it would smooth out the functions as well by hopefully being higher quality than original but I dont know. Any thoughts from anyone on this?

Wouldn't it be a good time to spend a few extra bucks and get a third spool for a grapple? I've done that (not yet installed) for my 2540.
Sorry for the dupe, the first post showed "database error" then showed up later anyway!

No problem. I do want a grapple and have seriously looked at the loader valve you referenced in another thread for just that purpose. Only thing I wonder is the 25gpm rating like you mentioned as well, with the pumps we have at less than 10gpm for the loader would it be going full speed when the valve is just opened? And would you be able to feather the controls? Both of these valves are parallel so thats an upgrade but the small one adds a regen function and losses the third spool. Not sure if the regen is something I would even notice, but Im finding a grapple is more of a need than a want now.

Agreed, I know what spoiled me was when I used a friends kubota l3200 for a spell. The loader was very precise and smooth to operate

Kubota usually sweats the details on stuff like that.

Does anyone know if the standard valve on the 2538 is a serial valve? I think thats the right term for it, been taking a crash course in hydraulics over the past couple weeks.
