Mahindra 2538 vs 2555

Ok, I got a bit of a wild hair and could use some information and recommendation please. Im tempted to go about trading my 2538 for a 2555 but cant decide. I love the small size of the 2538 and I can seem to get anywhere I want to work, but how much bigger is the 2555 in actual usage? My only real gripe is I wish the loader on the 2538 was a little more, with more breakout force. Do you guys with the 2555 find it able to get in small spaces? And do the 2538 owners out there have any problems with its capabilities? I know I have thrown out a few options I was thinking in the past including a backhoe to help with the digging, but cant make up my mind and could use a few opinions or thoughts please.

Height is about 8 inches from my rops to a 2555 cab. Width is the big diff. I would think the 2555 is quite a bit more stable. The only thing I hate about the 2555 is the rear tires. They look like balloons. Maybe they are over inflated at my dealers. I am talking about the r4's. I think the bucket may work better on the 2555 due to the different hinging by the bucket. Hopefully no dead spot. I also see that it moves quite a bit slower. I like that idea. When I use a bucket I am not in a race. I am at 17200 plus my open station 2538 to go cabbed 2555.

That we have, ever since you started posting things on trading in it got me thinking that maybe I wasnt the only one looking into that. I haven't test drove one yet mostly cause im afraid I'll like it to much.lol. Something I really like on the 2538 is being able to stand up on mine and see the bucket edge on the ground, not sure if the 2555 would be the same. Have you used the loader on a 2555 some? Just curious if it has the same valve and also somewhat hard to make minor adjustments. One thing I will say, judging by the info under members names there are a lot of 2538s and 2555s out there.

FWIW,
I LOVE my 2538. It's done everything I've asked it to and more...except for lifting 1600 lbs with bucket forks...
I've found that if I increase my RPM's to 1800-2000, I get much better performance from the bucket and "break out force". Just moved 13 ton of surge rock (size of your fist), without a glitch or even a moan from the 2538. Today I dug 40 post holes 36-40" deep in clay. Never had a problem with bogging down at all.

2 days ago I mowed 5 acres with a 7' pull behind grooming mower. Lifted it without a problem, ran it at 540 PTO RPM without a hitch.

I wish I had a cab for it, but the cost is prohibitive as an add-on. I also wish the bucket were a little bigger, but it dwarfs my buddies Kubota 34 horse bucket. But even if they made it a little bigger we would probably still gripe, unless it was the size of a CAT front loader....:laughing:

And screamin400 solved my 3 pt hitch lever issue. Works like a charm now. Thanx!

If 20 extra horses and a bigger frame are worth it to you...go for it. But I'll keep my 2538. Just my $0.02

i have 2555 open station. it is great. 6ft cutter no struggles at all. the only time engine bogged down a bit was pushing the front bucket into dirt mound. no turning problems and i have a lot of woods , seems to turn pretty tight to me. i am so happy with hp. the hoe is a bit disappointing. the dipper doesnt have quite the power. i was hoping for. but you can get dig fine since the bucket seems to have more capability to scoop. still glad i got it. also have 6ft BB no struggles. also have hst so it is no problem to back up/go forward whenever needed in tight space.

Hello, I also have a 2555 HST open station and it has 75B backhoe. I am very happy with loader lift capacity and backhoe digging capability. I have taken it into my 10 acre woodlot 2 or 3 times per week (with backhoe attached) for the last 5 months with no problems. I have only owned this machine since 3/16 (have 135 hrs. on it now) --and would say there are not any difficulties with operations in the woods. However, I have not driven a 2538 under same circumstances for comparison. Also - I can see front edge of bucket when it's on the ground when I stand up in the operators platform (am 6'4" tall). In addition - when the ROPS is folded - it will fit thru my 9' wide x 7' tall overhead garage door - but backhoe has to be swung sideways to close door on my 24' deep garage when grapple is on the loader. (A new single bay garage with 9 x 9' door is in the planning stages). Overall - very satisfied!

Here is what I think I know. Not sure but think so. Foot pedals are electronic on the 2555 and work better and easier than ours when I drove one. No creeping that I saw. The loader works slower and smoother but again this was sitting in the dealers yard. Seat is better. Has a cupholder. I need that for my phone. More hp but not as much more as I would have thought. 17 more at the motor and only 10-12 more at the pto. Tractor has a turbo. I love my turbos. Lower rpm and more torque than without. Now the question is can I get the same tune as the 2565 and still have the hst work right? I wonder if it can lift a ton of pellets? My 2538 with forks cannot lift much. With bucket it is fine but forks are pretty lame. The tilt back is very weak even with the bucket. Seat is better on the 2555. I put a different suspension under mine but makes the pedals a little further away. Cruise control is nice. I just put it on my 2538 and love it. Rear hydraulic is nice as I will put a hydraulic upper link on my box blade. I use the blade a lot. The tractor is 71.5 inches wide. Just barely fits my equipment. I would be going to a 7' box blade and probably a grapple if I get the 2555. My tiller will hardly cover as it is 6'. If I had a 7' tiller I may look at the 3550 but tiller is new and I do not want the extra weight of the 3550 even though it is a nicer tractor. Brake lever is backward on the 2555 and is electric if I recall. You pull up to lock the brakes. Turning radius is larger and that is an issue for me but I will get over it. Cost is the only thing holding me back at 17k plus my 2538. I have over 200 hours on my 2538 now. Great tractor but hoping to get her bigger sister.

Thanks Duffer. My 2538 has been a great machine so far and the only times ive had second thoughts is when I go to lift something that is just out of reach for the loader. The general hp and even bush hogging has been a non issue for me, only those times the loader needed probably a few hundred more pounds of lift or curl.

Thank you mikeman and hkbirdman. It seems like you guys have had really good luck doing exactly what I want to do with mine, makes me want to trade even more. Seems its still a very agile machine and will get where I want to, it just looked way to big sitting on the lot but I here once you get them home they shrink. I have a lot of small stuff to do around the house as well as in the woods since its the only one I have with a FEL on it so being able to move around close to things and get close with the bucket is important to me.

Thank you for sharing you findings screamin400, sounds like we have the same issues......just different versions on 2555 we are after. Im hoping to go to my dealer this Friday and get a closer look and test drive. I need to get the filters for my 50hr service so may as well see if I will need them for a 2555 instead.lol. I keep finding uses and racking up the hours faster than I really thought I would, Im actually at 60ish hours and its only been 2 months that I have had it. Not bad if I was a farmer for a living but this was just something for my personal use. It all depends on what my dealer says he can do and how bad I would lose my but if I trade on not, what I have is getting it done just a few things I wish it did better. Another big thought is Im only on 6 acres, not 60 so the upgrade is harder to justify for what I really need.

Is the 2555 a large CUT or is it a utility size tractor?

forgot to mention the model hoe is 65B. as soon as i got the tractor i put dielectric grease on every connection and used paint pen to mark most of the bolts that might come loose over time so i can tell visually if they loosen. once its dirty it is 3x the amount of work to do it. ran it for about 10 hours this weekend cutting grass/brush, knocking down trees, grappling etc. put on a few of 4 inch pvc pipes to hold fire ext. and to hold chainsaws.
