Drew, hope you feel better after cooling down and having a steak.

Does anyone have any pros and cons for the transition lenses that darken when you go outside? Will they work while driving in my car, or do they need the sunlight directly on them to darken?

PJS, republic wireless uses Sprints network, but much cheaper if you are typically in a WiFi environment. You use wifi mostly, and you save.

73°F and .05 inches rain.

Some of you guys are working so hard I'm beginning to feel like a slacker. Do be mindful of the heat.

Be safe
Have a great day

74.5F, pretty humid, and mostly cloudy @ 12:30, high today supposed to be 74F so we've hit that already ... 76F tomorrow and then 84F on Wednesday, good chance of rain on Thursday, slight chance on Friday, and then supposedly clear sailing through Wednesday of next week with reasonable temps (high 70's, low to mid 80's)

Yesterday I did a little tune-up/maintenance on the Simplicity: checked the engine oil, lubed the drive chains, throttle and choke cables, put on a clean foam outer air filter element, and dialed in the carb settings ... purrs like a kitten at idle now. After that I degreased the MMM for the kubota and then mowed about 1/2 the grass down here around the house. Then I cleaned up the weeds and dead grass up by the shed where I'm going to plant the daylilies ... got a little over 1/2 of that done.

Someone delivered another two loads of logs and woodchips ... will probably try and get those moved today before I take the loader and boxblade off to mow.

Thanks, Kyle. We'll look into them as well. A couple of people recommended Boost, who also apparently uses Sprint's network, but their coverage map in our area was very weak.

My last several pairs of lenses came from Costco, and they're both no-line bifocals and transition lenses. They darken with the sun, but don't darken much at all when I'm inside a car. They do darken a bit behind the shield on a motorcycle, but not as much as when in direct sun. Do some googling and I think you'll find that most of the transition lenses need UV light to change; the UV is blocked by both glass and plastic. Might be a formulation that works on visible light, but I haven't found it yet.

Wife and I started looking hard at alternative cell phone plans over the weekend. We'd gotten several recommendations from friends and family, but research showed poor coverage with most of them either in our area or in the areas she frequents for her business. Looked at Sprint yesterday, and they seem to be the most promising. Tired of getting raped every month by Verizon.

I tried Page Plus for a while, but found that their coverage was poor in rural areas in spite of the fact that they used the Verizon network. PP did not have the agreements in place for those rural network providers, and Verizon doesn't allow PP to piggy back on their agreements.

I also tried Straight Talk, but found, in spite of what their sales people said, they do not allow tethering so I could use my cell phone for a modem. Of course I was travelling at the time, and it was a major inconvenience. And it took forever to get them to reverse the charges.

So I'm back on Verizon, enjoying mediocre coverage at the house, but pretty good coverage everywhere else. 2Gb/month, unlimited calls and text, $57.57 all in. Seems expensive, but I learned the hard way you get what you pay for. Their customer service is the best, with very short waits and people that speak English as a primary language, and that actually do what they say they are going to do. Very rare in this day and age.

Good hunting; let us know what you find out, OK?

Good Morning!!!! 84F @ 10:15AM. Sunny. High 98F. Winds S at 10 to 15 mph.

Another heat advisory, so I'll take some time to unload the truck from last Thursday and then finish a little spraying that's left. Then inside the rest of the day to see what kind of trouble I can stumble into.

Hope everyone's week gets off to a good start!

Then have to call my Gravely specialist in WVA and find out the best way to buy Gravely red in bulk.
I really should get an air spray system, though the thought of spending 3/4 of my time cleaning up the equipment when done is not appealing.
And how do I get rid of the mess other than sending it to a landfill? At least with rattle cans they go to recycling.

But eleven dollars a piece for what amounts to fairly thin paint is equally unappealing. Takes two to three coats to get it even. Use up a lot of cans that way on a big mower deck and
all the other red parts. Am hoping to get a cross to another paint. Have read dozens of Gravely posts about paint numbers, like Kubota there is an orange tone to it, but much less than Kubota. Closer to IH Red with a dash of orange. Actually very close to Massey Red, which I think is getting close to a Ferrari red.
What I am restoring is pretty rare so I'd like to get the right paint on it. The folks in WVA or even Ariens customer service will know. Ariens greatly values the Gravely name, even if they don't build any of the same equipment on which Gravely made its reputation. They still market good quality zero turns though who makes what for conglomerates now is a question.

I haven't been very pleased with the durability and finish quality of any of the spray bomb paint I've used, and have been equally unimpressed with most of the less expensive automotive finishes as well. It might seem like a waste to spend $50/quart for paint, but the UV inhibitors in the good stuff prevent facing for a much longer time, and the primer systems that go with them do a much better job of helping the paint stick. When it comes to paint, you really do get what you pay for.

For color, take a piece in that has the old paint on it and a good paint shop should be able to match it almost exactly. Look for a bracket or other piece that has one side that has not been exposed to sunlight and you'll get a much better idea of how it looked when it came out of the factory.

As far as cleanup, I use cheap lacquer thinner, first wiping out the cup with paper towels to soak up most of what's in there, then about 4 oz of thinner shaken around inside and sprayed out the nozzle for a first clean until the gun is empty. Then more clean thinner in the cup, using some of it to wet another paper towel which is used to wipe down the outside of the gun. Then I drop the spray tip into the cup and swirl it around a bit, then brush it down with more thinner. Then I put the tip back on and shoot the thinner through the gun to finish cleaning. When I'm done, I unscrew the tip a half turn to keep it from sticking next time I go to spray.

All the waste goes in the garbage. The thinners and vehicles evaporate long before any of the stuff hits the landfill, and the paint leftovers harden so there's not much chance of groundwater pollution. If you're worried about it, throw the stuff in your burn pile and enjoy easier lighting next time you set one off!

I think I spent close to $400 for my last spray gun, but that was for the van and I needed all the help I could get to compensate for my poor eyes and rusty technique. If all I was shooting was tractors and implements, first place I'd look would be Harbor Freight for one of their very inexpensive guns. I'd make sure to read the reviews to weed out the duds though. If that didn't turn up anything, I'd look in the phone book for a Finishmaster or automotive paint dealer that sold DuPont products, then go have a talk with the man behind the counter. If he's actually worked in a body shop shooting paint, I'd pay attention to what he had to say. If he hasn't, I'd ask if there's someone there that has, or if all they have are clerks that learned everything by reading sales brochures, I'd find another shop.

$.02, and probably not worth that...

We are just generally looking at places where we can cut costs. Phone bill was an obvious one. We have 3 phones, a tablet (which line we are dropping), and our home phone, 12Gb data, and unlimited calls and texts ... $269/month with Verizon. The boy eats up most of the data every month (Wife and I use about 2Gb combined), then goes after our also limited satellite internet data, too (he's been excluded from the new wifi password since he and his girlfriend Netflixed us out in 8 days last month :pullinghair: ). The best plans we've found so far seem to be from Sprint. They have unlimited talk, text, and data for $90/month for three phones for the first year, then goes up to $130/month after September 2018. That's still half what we're paying now. If we add home phone, that's another $25/month. She's already told the boy he'll need to find his own plan now that he's 18 (and he's actually been looking), so that'll drop $30/month back off. Sprint guy on the phone also told me about a "1-year-free" plan they offer if you use your own (compatible) phones. Not openly listed on their site, but comes up in a site search. Basically, they charge you $5/month plus taxes and fees, then credit the $5, and you get to "try" their service for one year to see if you like it. You also have to buy their sim cards for $3 each plus $10 shipping. We're probably going to do that. Seems almost too good to pass up a deal like that.

Our iPhone 6s's are compatible, but the boy's 5C isn't. So, the Wife found him a 6S on another site for $150 and ordered it for him. Once his phone gets here later this week, we'll make the switch. I'll let you know how it goes, and if there are any ridiculous undisclosed charges.

Have you looked at the $20/mon Unlimited AT&T Mobley plan for data? Good sized thread here on TBN. My AT&T cell phone service pretty much sux, but the Data works better than my previous ISP.
