74°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 99° today. Expecting storms to roll through over night and into tomorrow morning to push out the heat again. Mid-80s for the weekend.

New golf wedges were delivered yesterday. Looking forward to playing a little with the milder weather this weekend.

74 this morning and headed to 94 today.

Got cattle worked yesterday and no injuries to man or beast so successful day. 2 open cows, which I suspected both. One acted like she was in heat last week and the other wasn't exposed to the bull for very long after calving this spring. She was set to calf as a 2 year old but missed and had first calf at 2 1/2. So next calf will be at 4. Other cow is 8 and has started skipping years. Somebody will be eating her before too much longer.
Veterinarian wasn't thrilled about a 1pm cattle working, but as he was leaving he commented that this was the coolest 1pm July cattle working he'd been to. My handling facility is in a barn and laid out so there is a constant breeze across the head gate. Because of that it's not conducive to spending much time working cows in January though.

Have some errands to run today and then allergy shots.

Sand is my problem, too, wears blades in a hurry. Hardened edges have got to help.

daugen

I have a little Hobart 140 welder, the only welding I have done with it is flux core. I didn't get to play with it yesterday, I was going to practice welding T joints. I can get a passing grade on the butt and lap joints. I have done some welding to fix stuff around here. I put a hitch on a home made lawn roller. I got from a guy to roll the snow on my gravel driveway in the winter. So the snow blower doesn't dig in to it so bad.
It's been fun to lean how to use it.

The low this morning was 53* and the high yesterday was 68*. It was overcast all day with a lite showers in the afternoon. Today is going to be partly cloudy and warmer. Looks like we might get some more showers.

Worked on the neighbors fence tell it started to rain. This may take a few more days to get done, have to cut the poles and move them to where I need them.
Pulling ring shank nails are a pain in the ***. When they are 8-10 inches long.

Hope everyone has a nice day.

64.4F and very sunny @ 09:30, high today 83F.

Started weeding the area under the kitchen window yesterday morning, was overcast so it was very pleasant.

Once I got some of the big stuff out of there, I could see that the groundhogs had dug open the entrances to their burrows that I had filled in last year ... and added another two for a total of four holes just for good measure. So ... between that and munching my marigolds on the other end of the house, I'm starting to get motivated to do something to make them go away. Got out the box of mothballs and threw one down each hole yesterday ... I think I only have around 4 or 5 mothballs left so I need to grab another box next time I'm down by the hardware store. Also dumped some used cat litter down one of the holes.

I did manage to get most of the area weeded but still have a little more to go ... there's a 10' tall oak sapling right next to the AC unit, plus some poison ivy growing in there ... plus the huge stump from that eastern red cedar I took down a couple years ago. There's also a couple of wood retaining walls that are rotting out and need replaced ... but they haven't completely rotted away quite yet. Probably go with masonry to replace it.

After that I started working on cutting the forsythia back some more ... also trimmed a couple of low-hanging branches off the dogwood tree. Probably took six dump cart loads to the compost and burn piles.

Checked out three of the nest boxes ... one that had a house wren in it appeared abandoned, another looked like it might still be active, and the third one appeared to completely jammed full of sticks ... I took that one down off the pole and opened it up and discovered it actually had a number of nestlings in it ... so I closed it up and put it back up on the pole.

Came in around 14:30 for some lunch and after eating decided to take a little nap ... woke up around 18:00 when The Woman called.

Went back out after dinner and hauled the trimmings up to the burn pile and then trimmed some more and filled it up again.

The cut grass in the front should be pretty dry by this afternoon so will need to get that picked up later today.

RS, you sound like me, full job security....you aren't getting finished anytime soon.

eyes still dilated, really can't go out in the sun for awhile, confirmed very mild cataracts but great retinas...he said my eyes were fine.
Did not purchase the extra cost services they peddle every year, decided to go every other year and just have the Medicare paid for exam. Boy did that throw a wrench
in their gears.

Just sign here Sir.
I can't sign that, it says I want those services and I specifically don't.
But you have to sign this saying I reviewed things.
I'm not signing that form if it's wrong ma'am.
Well you'll have to see the doctor.

Needless to say, I didn't sign their form. It would have allowed them to bill for
services not provided; it was clear they tried to add this on to almost everyone.
A fairly pushy marketing scheme, probably normal to most big chain eye glass places.
Eye doc highly competent though, no issues with him. He wants as much info as possible,
I respect that. I just don't think I should pay for having pictures taken of my eyes every year
when I have great vision and no issues.

this is like the dentist wanting to do xrays every year. I say no, don't want the rads.
If they want to do them every year, I say every other year. And at least for me, they never find anything worthwhile
with all those xrays, they find what they need to find just poking around.
Too many tests....

I told the eye doc if he found anything worrisome he could do the extra tests.
Let's see, 85 dollars extra per exam, on almost every exam. No wonder they want to add it on automatically.

Have changed into work clothes, pretty necessary when spraying bleach on white fencing and headed out.

Did they charge you a "refraction fee", Drew? My ophthalmologist did last week for my routine eye exam. That was a nice $40 kicker for 'em. I was tired, and just let it slide, but it does irk me that a doctor, someone that is supposed to have above average ethics, would resort to this sort of thing.

65F overnight, headed to 90s today, coffee tastes extra good this morning.

Mower belt went on without issue last night and I got a couple hours mowing in. I have some more to go, but feel much better now that I almost have it all done. I have some that I have not done yet, once I get that, I will pull blades and sharpen and do the whole mess again (much quicker second pass, makes it look much nicer). I don't mind mowing normally, and now that I have the GVS SPR457 Elipse P1 Half Mask Respirator, Medium and Large: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific so I can breathe.

Yes, right on. I had a major change last year after refraction, after letting my eyes go so long due to distractions of my wife's health. Bought all new sunglasses and regular glasses from them,
nice big tab on that. My vision improved hugely, and it still is just fine. Our eyes change as we age, I get that. But I have no intentions of buying all new lens anyway so why bother getting
remeasured? And I hate that process, gives me eye strain and the beginnings of a head ache. Is this better or worse ad nauseum.
Bad enough your eyes are dilated and your drive home on a sunny day is strange and genuinely painful. I should have put their temporary lens over my sun glasses...maybe that was the answer and I missed it. Even side light coming in was intense. I'll try that when I go out. Am like a cat on a hot stove waiting to get out there...

It's too bad the dilation chemicals are so long lasting. I'm afraid of adding any other medicine/chemical to the mix.
now that I think I have an answer with the double sunglasses, time to sweat.

72°F and no rain

Flash back home with a few less teeth and my credit card a bit heavier. Drew, I think I'd rather your eye bill.

Be safe
Have a great day
