I think they very effectively busted quite a few myths. More so in the early days. At other times their methods and conclusions were suspect. Most of the later part of the series was just various excuses for blowing things up. Which is also enjoyable. I wish the show was still on.

As far as the Levis logo, well, it doesn't actually claim that the jeans can withstand two horses, it only suggests that once, a pair of their jeans was pulled on by two horses. It certainly implies that they could....and the Myth Busters put the implied claim to bed. Even when I watched that episode I was expecting the horses to at least have to lean into it a bit. They did not. They did not appear to strain in the least.

Similar, a motorcycle magazine tested whether Levis could shield against 'road rash', abrasion. They put a big brick in the pants and dragged it around their parking lot. Their conclusion: nope, no value as protective gear.

I think any kid who has ever fallen off a bicycle in the street could have told them that.

Of course, I never had that expectation of my Levis. My expectations were that the same size jeans would be the same size, that the leg seam was not a spiral and that they would not fall apart in unstressed areas. Apparently that was too much to ask. And to beat this thoroughly dead horse just a little more, I see this as a picture of the US: manufacturers incapable of making quality stuff and consumers happy to pay a premium for low quality stuff. A sad commentary indeed.

I am almost as concerned about the low, low expectations of American consumers as I am with the fact that the only thing "Made In USA" means anymore is a higher price for Chinese-quality merchandise.

Yes. That was when they came essentially unwashed. And you had to sort of guess how much they would draw up.

I don't miss that part much as they stayed pretty stiff for a while. I think the big change was that the 'worn' look came in and people wanted the jeans to look 'worn' without....wearing them.

No they really didn't...they may have used some actual myths for the premiss of some of their stunts or scenarios but they never really proved anything except American TV audiences are easily amused...!

As a kid I thought all jeans were made that way until I realized my parents were buying them from the 'irregular rack' at the discount store.

My parents bought me "Tough Skins" from Sears. They contained 0.00% natural materials.

As for colognes etc? I do not wear perfume, make-up or jewelry.......not that there's anything wrong with it..............if you get my drift.
