Is RP worth the extra? I first heard of them when Kristen Powell was in the NHRA.

Boy that goes back some (like at least 20 years). I think Cristen Powell won her first championship in 1997. Is it worth it? I suppose it has nothing over any other synthetic so I'd say no. I do have it in my Hemi Durango and picked up 2 miles per gallon over dino oil but that could have happened with any synthetic. Can leave it in 7-10k, Leaves a purplish hue to internal engine parts.

Theres an interesting story here.....

A while ago I read a article on motor oils and their make-ups and differences. In a nutshell, synthetic oils should have roughly the same base ( roughly as in saying popov vodka and greygoose are the same because theyre alcohol). Sufice it to say some bases are better and more refined than others. The other main component of motor oil is the additive package - anti wear properties, anti rust etc.

Now heres the interesting part, china sends massive quantities of this "additive package" to companies which the companies then add to their base oil either straight or slightly modified. Some companies supposedly modify it a lot. While just a few companies abstain from the chinese additive package and make their own blend with their own ingredients. Royal Purple is one of these companies. I think Redline might be too, but dont quote me on that. I digress, RPs original formula has supposedly been tweeked for more anti-wear additives, but its still is touted as not coming on a container ship from the communist country to our west.

With that said, Ive personally used some form of RP oil in everthing from my tractors hydrostatic transmission to atv engines to my 6.7L turbo diesel engine, to my wifes car and even my industrial sewing machines - and everything inbetween (not to mention all of RPs other products). I havent had a single failure or premature wear that ive been able to inspect yet...

So, yes. If it fits in the budget, I think its worth it. Even just so i dont buy from china. And before anyone gives me grief, No, i dont work for RP and no Im not sponsored by them. I just like what they have to offer and have done a butt load of research.

If the oils and filters mean so much to you, I'm happy for you! Glad you found your Royal Purple!

But these tractors outlive their owners over and over again on over the counter fluids and filters.

I do appreciate RP fluid in the front forks of my motor bike however. Notable difference!

Lol, they do man. Im very serious about my lubes.

Ive seen old tractors live forever. Im not too sure about the new ones - doesnt seem to be as much metal in them. Plus, the goal is to avoid repairs, not just longevity. Once of prevention ;)

Poor Fordson E27n, not an oil filter nor pump in sight.

And 70 years behind it.

Thats just it though, low rpm with a relativly large oil bath and a whole lot of metal to wear away very slowly. Im just not sure if the newer tractors are as independent of their circumstances. Thats why I switched to the best I could find and buy.

I get your point though.

The question I have is, how do you know that RP is the "best I could find and buy"? Is being best based on testing, belief, or advertising hype or what?
I'd like to run the best I can find too, but don't know how to measure it.
Uh...actually I can think of a couple of ways to measure oil performance, but I'm lazy and would rather that someone I trust does it instead of me.. :)

When I was choosing a filter I looked at 3 things.

Construction materials, Filtering efficiency and Mileage Claim.

When I compared the Amsoil EaO oil filters with Mobil1 and RP. The RP won out for my application.
