Tractor
Yanmar YT347
My wife and I attended Empire Farm Days in Seneca Falls NY today. If you are in the market for a tractor this is the place to go; Every manufacturer was there. I stopped by Yanmar to check out their other tractors and talk to them about our YT347. You could test drive their tractors and UTVs. We test drove a UTV Bull on the mini track they had set up. Very nice UTV. Chatted with my dealer Scott's Small Engine, one of the sales reps and the regional service engineer. After talking with them, it confirmed that I made the right decision buying a Yanmar.

I got 424 TLB i am extremely happy with my tractor. It was this or the Kubota BX25d. The Yanmar is a lot bigger. Empire Farm Days of last year helped me out a lot.

My wife and I were there yesterday as well. It really is a great show if you are looking to compare compact tractors and implements. Decent deals to be had on show implements if manufacturers or dealers don't want to take them back to their facility.

We will be going there tomorrow, looking forward to it. I got engaged there a few years back.

Which was your favorite? Why?

Yanmar was right up there. Laid out well. Mahindra was second. Kioti was good also. The LS was pretty good along with new holland. I hear they also make the international cab which I did not like at all. Seemed smaller. I did not look too at the Kubota as I don't want a rocker shift tractor. Overall they we all pretty nice and more the same than different.

My wife and I had a chance to try out the Kubotas yesterday. (in OK, no NY trip here)

The difference in ergonomics is amazing. As expected, the standard 'L' was basic (but better than I thought it would be). The Grand was better - but not in the same league as the Yanmar. this is important to us b/c she will operate it even more than I will.

Mechanically, the Yanmar beats the economy 'bota in almost every respect. Not surprising, as the red one is a deluxe model. But they are priced the same. The Grand was significantly higher priced. And still no Yanmar for ergonomics.

The Kubota salesman suggested that they sell the economy rig about 20 to 1 for the the Grand. From the paint fading, I think he might have been understating the proportion. From my casual observations, most folks are buying the economy machines. My wife gasped when i showed her the difference in specs (dump, lift height, hydraulic flow, etc). I know that the limited number of folks that I have spoken with have ended up being frustrated with the economy tractors.

I think Yanmar could push out more tractors if they offered an economy one. But, I for one agree that their machines set a high bar for technical, mechanical, and ergonomic design.

I am interested in hearing what impressions others have.
