I'll say this ,they certainly are adaptiable. I would never have thought snakes existed that far north. I'm wondering if their demise in my area is attributed to increased wild hog population that occurred about the same time as this snake was becoming increasingly rare. I know for fact that hogs eat snakes,including venomous types. Whereas a rat snake might hide, slither away or even shinny up a tree,these guys would make themselves conspicuous if disturbed by foraging hogs.

Well there is one benefit to hogs.......

The rat snake I caught a while back was 7'1" and had 2 of my half grown turkeys inside him.
That was his last meal.

Yikes... all we have around here are harmless little Garter snakes that rarely are more than 20in or so.

Could be a rat snake of some variety but probably too thin for the length. Definitely too thin for a diamondback, bullsnake or indigo snake.

Off-hand I'd guess a coachwhip (I think that's the only racer that get 7ft in N. Texas). Aggressive suckers and fast too!

I'm not an expert but if you take close-ups of the belly scales around the vent and the head/nose (if intact) I probably can give you at least a genus.

Not that many snakes regularly get to 7'. Pretty rare to find one that intact.

That one is harmless too (apparently unless you're a young turkey)
