My cousin and the bank robber!

In defense of the OP, I found it interesting, and a bit humorous. First of all, it seems to be a study in human depravity. It's amazing what some people will stoop to, and how they can unashamedly degrade and humiliate another human being, especially a child. The man was an evil, perverted SOB who rightfully deserved to serve jail time. My guess is he was trying to impress his "lady friends". It was a different time, and based on the stories I have heard from my Dad and my Granddad, people at that time could be hard...very hard, not to mention irrational.

Wait a minute, you mean to say people "back then" were just as F up'ed as they are now?

Whatever happened to the good old days?

What's not to like in a story about a guy trying to see a boys pecker?

Sorry, see no humor in it. People are messed up, don't need any stories reinforcing that fact.

In some aspects, perhaps we have gotten better as a society. If this happened to the boy back then, what happened when he told his parents about the story?

Well, as the man says, a difference of opinion...that's what makes a horse race. I am probably about the same age as the protagonist in the story, so perhaps the scenario, although a bit graphic, doesn't seem so fantastic to me. The badass today would probably went on past the kid because he and the ladies would have been sitting there staring at their I-phones.

This is a cautionary tale with a morale, more about that later.

The goal of the criminal was to make the little boy degrade and humiliate himself in exchange for the chance of getting the dollar. Of course in depression times, the dollar was more like 100 dollars today. The Criminal wanted to show his lady friends that he was powerful enough to do this to the child. His ego was given a boost by the child actually doing what he wanted. The bubble headed floozies he was with, actually thought it funny. The child was degraded and humiliated just like the criminal wanted and to punctuate his success he threw the boy out of the car.

Keep in mind most criminals are mean, cruel and many are mentally ill SOB's. All by definition are lacking in moral turpitude and good manners. Those women that gravitate towards these types of individuals are often themselves mean, hateful and again many are mentally ill. As a former LEO, I have no problem at all believing that this actually happened.

The morale of the story is NEVER get in a car with some stranger. Something bad is liable to happen

Late 40's was not during the depression.

If the boy in question is now 78, he was born in 1940, which would put the time frame in "the late 40's".

The car is what has me thrown off per the seating in the back along with the fact that the first auto with air conditioning was around 1939.

Do I believe it happened? Of course it could of happened. My personal opinion is people are screwed up today as they were in the past, with or without the help of technology or medicine. Why people would "enjoy" the story is another subject.

Part of my point is people complain about "todays times" vs "yesteryear" and for some reason people think the past is always better then the present.

Did this boy tell the story to his parents and did the parents report it?

Then again, it's a big *** bank robber so perhaps no one wanted to say anything. That's why I asked the name of the bank robber. If the story is true, some quick back ground checking that anyone one of us could do could verify it.

Probably happened. Of course tales get bigger with the telling as you know. I know this much, there were mean hateful people then just as now.

Did you enjoy the story?

Yeah, my biggest regret is that they didn't have a go pro camera when I was younger. Have some pics, but still doesn't do the deed justice:D

Without a doubt, the ready availability of video recording equipment in most peoples pockets will change the way we tell "stories" in the future. (pictures or it didn't happen"...

Did you enjoy the story?

I think that is a loaded question, but I will answer it. It depends on what nuances you attribute to the word "enjoy", but I did "enjoy" it in the sense that it was an interesting story that rang true, based on the time, the place and the people. I have always been interested in differences in character and what makes people think and act in a certain way. In that respect, I found it interesting, and in that respect I enjoyed it. It doesn't mean in any respect that I get pleasure out of other peoples humiliation and mistreatment, especially that of a child. In my humble opinion, there is nothing worse than someone who abuses a child.

In my lifetime, and my profession, I have seen, heard and studied a lot of unsavory things that I had to deal with, so perhaps my perspective is a bit different, and for that I have no apologies.
