John Deere X 300 parts help!!!

I don't know if your mower deck has one or two belts but it certainly would be worthwhile to remove them and turn each pulley by hand to see if any are binding up. Also look for signs of something rubbing on the belt(s). If you don't find anything I might be checking the engine compression. It's possible that your engine is down on power and when loaded down the mower is engaged it's too much for the engine.

Thanks!! 486.8 hours. Removed belt released parking brake turned on heard pto clunk at least 10 times. Started the motor right up. Released parking brake pulled pto switch another 10 times no problem at all while running, never cut out once!

Great, you have just proved there is no problem with the PTO circuit, the module, or the engine.

Left mower running pulled each plug wire one at a time. Definatly (sic) each wire when removed heard engine idle down some both must be firing.

Even better news re: engine.

I guess I need to remove the deck and see whats binding? Funny I can turn the whole thing from the pto pulley by hand and its not that hard. Really appreciate the help and any more suggestions you may have to finish this thing!!!

Tell us which width mower deck you have please? 2 or 3 blades??

Then, IN THIS ORDER:

Yes, remove the mower deck.
Remove the black belt covers. TAKE A PHOTO OF THE BELT PATH FOR REASSEMBLY REFERENCE. (Although there is a decal on the deck itself.)
Loosen the idler pulleys and take the belt right off.
Stand the mower deck up on rear edge.
Align the blade tips next to each other and check for level alignment.
Keeping hands/fingers out of the way - Spin each blade individually. They should spin freely like an aeroplane propellor.
Spin the idler pulleys.
They (Idlers and Blade Spindles) should spin freely and quietly. Any rumbling noise will be apparent.

Tell us what you feel & hear?
Report your findings. Do not disassemble further before reporting. (!)

This won't take long and you can isolate the problem asap.

Did you specifically do this?

The spindles are greasable. Did you grease them before re-fitting the deck?

Need pics. There are several variations on the 42" deck. Side discharge with & without tensioner handle. Single belt. Mulch deck. Double belt etc.

Tell neighbour he will be buying new covers. They help guide the belt on some deck models.

Take picture of deck from directly above and post back here.

Ill take deck pics. Single belt no tensioner handle side discharge. I found the belt rolled once straightened it out. Thought I had it turns very easily with my hands taking the place of the pto pulley. I just don't get it I will keep following instructions! Thanks again!!!

I know you said you removed the wire that kills the engine but was that with the old module or new one? If not with the new one I would try that test again as maybe you have a wiring issue and as soon as the mower starts to shake the machine it causes a problem. I'm not an expert but I have to believe that if you can spin all the pulleys on the deck easily then your engine should be able to turn it. When it dies does it seam like it's dying from being over loaded or like someone turned off the key?
