Wow!! jd really has a horrible 3pt lift capacity

I just ordered this drill today. I hope I didn't make a mistake. I have an everything attachments grapple bucket..would you guys recommend running it with that for more counter weight? I've talked to guys that said they ran this drill with older 4720 and 4520....same specs...I'm hoping it will be fine

Do you have a link for the drill? And what are you planting? Did you till with a chisel plough, disk or tiller?

It might not lift to full height on the 3pt but it will prob work. I would be very surprised if the 3pt didn't lift it enough not to be used.

What's your cover crop mix gonna be? Do you have a sprayer for herbicide and fertilizer? Or do you plan to sub that out?

I have done a lot of research on no till after OSU came out and said it's the way to go, on there test fields that are just north of me, they get greater yields out of there no till plots even with buying more herbicide and cover crop seed.

You might want to check before you buy to see if your agricultural area has any no-till drills for rental...

Wrong tractor, or wrong implement. Take your pick. It's as simple as that.

Horsepower is not the only way to size a tractor.

You have a 66hp tractor in a 40ish horsepower frame.

So what you have is a high powered smaller framed machine. And you can go to the other extreme to and get a lower powered larger framed machine.

The 5065 is the same hp as your 4066. But at 6400# it is double the weight. And will lift 4600# at the pins.

It's an unfair and apples to oranges comparison when you say a 60-70hp tractor of another make will lift 700# more.

Like I said, HP is not the only way to size a machine. Which it seems HP is the only metric you used.

And this isn't just in this size either. In the 50hp range, the heavier tractors can be twice as heavy as the lighter ones. Same in the 40hp range, or 30, or 90, etc. And physical size/weight is pretty proportion to lifting capacities.

You certainly said a mouth full there. And you are right. The truth may hurt, but those are the facts.

Prime examples are the older farm tractors back in the '40s and '50s. Lower HP but heavy weight tractors. Not as agile, but more capable than today's compacts and sub-compacts. ;)

30 ish hp machines
Kubota b3300.....1900# machine
Kubota l3301.......2600# machine
Kubota l3560......3600# machine

60ish hp machines
Mx5800......3800# machine
M5660…........4300# machine
M6060…........5300# machine

M5-111......6300#
M6-111 9800#......both 111 horsepower

Deere 5, 6, and 7 series have alot of overlap around 110-130 hp. And the 5-series are under 8000#. The 7-series are 12k+

It's the same through out lineups from all the mfgs. If you are shopping for horsepower alone, you are gonna get big house in a small frame. Great if you run alot of PTO stuff like mowers, tillers, etc. Not so great if you want ground engaging or heavy lifting
