JD 4600 - Instrument Cluster - Hour Meter Issue

Hello -

My JD4600's hour meter (in the instrument cluster) started losing it's display the other night and now it is no longer there. I've talked to the dealer and he said to check the wiring behind it (has anyone ever taken the cowling off to get to it?) or bring it in.

I'm curious if anyone else has seen this occur and what they did to address it.

How do you get the instrument cluster open to look at it?

The threads talk about replacing it and losing the hours in it. I imagine that would be the same if I used a new one that the dealer put in.

I replaced the cluster and then disassembled the old one. Unless you're a electronics technician and good with wiring boards, it looks like you'll just need to replace the entire kit. I also noticed that the unit - once sealed to the hood - seals pretty tight. I'm thinking that the old one (which would fog up) probably had an integrity issue over time and that is what killed the unit.

Oh well. Money spent and on to the next project!

The instrument cluster sets in the instrument panel. To the rear of the hood on the 4600. item key #5 Per attached file
