2017 Total Solar Eclipse...

Know where it is, have never stopped.

We just got home after 9 pm, was a long day on the road. Many backups, but i missed most by taking rt 11 3 different times. Hit a big backup on rt11 one place, so i took off up a little backroad that would go around, and found a neat old mill with a large running waterwheel. Didnt get a picture, but will go there again.

Regardless of where you are in the (continental) US...You will be affected by the eclipse...one way or another...
...What I like the most about it is...it will make folks think about the sun and moon and things beyond their living rooms etc...

I hope everyone has a "good eclipse"...for a large majority it is a rare and once in a life time opportunity...most of us have experienced many partial etc. eclipses but this one is special for a large amount of Americans...so have some patience if you are traveling for the best viewing of totality...be safe...

When you stop and think about it, I really do find it amazing that we now know when this is going to happen, and so far in advance.

And you don't need today's fancy computers to figure out where and when an eclipse is going to happen. For example:

Captain Cook (with William Bligh), on HMS RESOLUTION along with HMS DISCOVERY were at Tonga for the 5th of July, 1777 total eclipse of the sun. The event had been calculated so far in advance for them to sail from England to be at that exact spot.

Further to what I've written about Captain Cook & Co., and a wee bit more recent... I just watched a story on my local news about a bloke who anticipated this eclipse far enough back that he bought land (acreage) directly in the optimum path, built his house and has set up his own observatory.

Now that's dedication!

Apparently Nick Saban is going to be focused on other matters -- Alabama Crimson Tide coach Nick saban says he'll catch solar eclipse on TV.:)

There is a fine line between dedication and stupidity, and I believe that bloke past that line some time ago.

That, or he just figured it was a good news story to make up.

We dropped my daughter off at SIU in Carbondale yesterday and took off about noon. The main routes weren't exactly bumper to bumper but without a doubt, heavier traffic than normal headed south. I was glad we were going the other way. Right now the forecast looks pretty poor for most of Illinois.

Rain for St Joseph has been pushed to tonight according to the current forecast. Now showing partly cloudy instead of cloudy until 3pm. We are hopefull for a good show by mother nature.

Regardless we have friends and family off work and coming over for a cookout and no work today. I'm turning the wifi off around 11 when things get started and no cell service here. Going to enjoy a day without everyone glued to facebook and snapchat.

Live/work directly in the path in Westminster/Seneca, SC. Working today but company bought everyone glasses, Moon Pies, Sunkist, Sun Drop, and a few other "related" snacks. Hourly folks are getting their afternoon break extended so it laps over the time of totality. Little party in the parking lot!
