so did he live? or not. Inquiring minds want to know. Jon

This is exactly the sort of thing I want to avoid. Shed does have rotten studs near the bottom, and I think if I go banging on it with the loader it could collapse in any direction. Hence the cable idea.

If it has rotten studs I would not want to be taking it apart piece by piece by hand. You might remove the wrong piece and bring it down unexpectedly. Also that roof has a lot of plywood and presumably shingles, that is a very heavy and tough combination. It will be laborious to break up with a sawzall or sledge. I have demolished old buildings with a backhoe and thumb, although a medium size excavator works better. Fast and safe. After the shed is munched up, it is very easy to deal with the pieces. A couple hours with a rake will take care of the usual detritus, which is plywood splinters and broken shingles. Here is a photo of a similar shed being demolished by machine:

Cable it right under the roof line to that big tree with a come-along and then use the tractor to push from the opposite side. It looks like it's already leaning that way.

I'd do it piece by piece. You can get a circular saw blade that will cut through nails, use that to cut vertically between each stud (roof and walls from the outside). Then you just make the horizontal cuts and you get nice easy to dispose of chunks for exterior and studs. If it's too rotten to do that then you might just do the walls and then pull to get the roof down. A pole saw may be a decent way to make some of the final horizontal cuts while staying out of harms way. Definitely wear a hard hat! Good luck, have fun and post pics.

I have to agree with most - for God's sake just push the dam thing over and be done with it.

However - now a word of caution. Mice, rats & Hantavirus. HPS - hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. Worked in a county health dept and saw two cases in one year. Not a pretty thing - rather rare - not easily diagnosed - can be terminal.

Contact your local Health Dept and get their recommendation for appropriate protective breathing masks. This is NO joke.

Sheesh! I'll be googling HPS here shortly!
