Agreed.

Looked like he tied it off to the tailgate cable.

That could take the cake as possibly the stupidest plan ever. What could possibly have made him think that was going to be anything except a disaster?

I did see a possible candidate for this thread the other day. But I was riding motorcycle behind it and I only really saw it in all its glory as it turned off on a side road so I don't have any pics...

It was a guy with a pickup truck towing what looked to be a 2-series sized JD CUT that had a loader and rear rotary cutter on it. The trailer was either a dump trailer or small utility trailer with ~1.5 foot sides that was probably about right weight capacity but was way too short. The loader of the tractor hung over the front of the trailer box a few feet, to the point that it may have contacted the truck's bumper/tailgate if he turned too sharp. And the rotary cutter was hanging off the back of the trailer about 3/4 of its length. The cherry on the top, literally, was a dirtbike strapped in the upright position on the rotary cutter behind the tractor. That man knew how to maximize his storage capacity! It was all very neat looking though, and seemed to be strapped down OK. Just way too long for the trailer.

My buddy has one of those 4x8 hf trailers, it is a 2" hitch... Not 1 7/8".

Maybee that's why his came off his 1 7/8" ball!!!

Two pages back, they were discussing standardisation... Europe is all ISO B 50 X or 50mm ball. Only Priuses have a substandard 50mm ball with a ridge on it, so you can only use it to mount a bicycle carrier, and no trailer :D

Only have to add at least one market that isn't affected...

Antique, Classic and Muscle cars of America are heading overseas like never before... several I know are making a good living sending cars to Europe and New Zealand...

...in that particular market segment, awkwardness is a plus... Thats why many old Citroen cars are kept by collectors, even though they were poorly built and plentiful...

Will have to disagree here. My educated guess is the last market for Imperial fasteners will be in the aviation industry. Already seeing metric in the US Industrial sector.

Commercial aircraft design in Europe, Japan, China, and Australia is Imperial. These current designs will be in production for a decade or two.

Aviation will indeed remain imperial for decades to come... even if it was just because of the much higher quality checks on stuff that gets up in the air... However on National Geographics Aircrash investigation, i saw an episode in which the co-pilot was blown out of the pressurised airplane when a front windshield was pushed out because of bolts that were just a fraction of an inch smaller than the handbook said...

Car manufacturers dont keep to DIN standard either. Often ISO, or even more often they use e.g. a 15mm flanged head on an M10 bolt.
