Do you have a smart phone? There is an "app" that will identify plants.

I agree that the plant in the first photo is pokeweed, a native plant.
If TBM members can't ID the plant in the second photo, take a cutting (stem, leaves, flower) to your local Cooperative Extension office. The folks there should be able to ID the plant.

Pokeweed is confirmed! Looks like it is a good plant for birds and small mammals, so I will leave them alone.
As suggested, I downloaded an smart phone app, but I'm not sure the second photo is correct. The app says it is either Mexican Devil, Spiraea Fristschiana or Duetzia Scabra. But the supplied photos don't really match up.
My neighbor is pretty good at identifying, so I will pass it by him too.
My concern is I know my property has Japanese Knotweed and Swallow wort, which I have tried to keep up with control. These are plants I have not seen before, so if they need to be added to the list, I will, but if they are not invasive or a problem plant I will leave them.

Look at some pics of Billy Goat Weed or Tropicial Whiteweed. Same family. See how close that is.

Knotweed is soooo difficult to control. I have had success with roundup in the spring, then again in the fall after the flowers are gone (let the bees get theirs) and then in the spring. The rhizomes hold so much power that its almost impossible to wipe out.
I don't care for pokeweed, it can take over an area pretty quick. Grows fast, hollow stem and a large tap root that will overwinter to come back bigger and faster the following years. I have been mostly successful pulling them when they are small, when bigger pull let resprout then spray (roundup or triclopyr). Toxic to dogs and people.
