Just ordered a L 2501
Hi folks. I've narrowed my search down to these 2 compacts. I want to go with a compact tractor loader at just under 25 HP to avoid the need for a Diesel Particulate Filter. I decided early on against Mahindra (reliability concerns) and Deere (price). Both the Massey and the Kubota dealers I'm speaking with have long histories and good reputations. The intended use is gravel driveway maintenance, snow removal, and grounds maintenance (we never put in a yard, so you can guess what the area surrounding the house looks like). We have a 250' drive, a 50' rounded parking area, and about 2/3 of an acre of thick weeds. The rest of our 3 acres is currently wooded.

Both machines have R4 tires, rear wheel spacers and rear chains. The spacers are a standard $233 option for the Kubota. The Massey dealer has a machinist who for $400 can fabricate spacers for the 1726E. The Massey loader bucket is 60"; the Kubota's bucket is 66". Both are quick release types. I plan to add an aftermarket 5' rear plow, and a spreader for salt or sand. Kubota offers a rear worklight option, which will be useful with the rear plow. Both will come with block heaters.

Financing offers are 10% down and 72 mos at 0% on the 1726E, or 60 mos at 0% on the Kubota. I have a detailed price breakdown for the 1726E, and should have one for the L2501 in the morning.

Thoughts?

Assuming both dealers are good, I would go with whichever of the two, that you feel most comfortable on, as they will most likely have similar capabilities.
.... I believe you are wise to stay under the extra emissions requirements.!

The Kubota L2501 has a naturally aspirated engine of 100.5 cubic inches. The L2501 develops its power at lower RPMs.

The MF 1726E has a turbo-charged engine of 91.3 cubic inches.

This is a splitting hairs decision. If you were at 6,000'+ altitude I would recommend the turbocharged MF 1726E.

As you are not high, I recommend the simpler Kubota L2501. Senseless to rule against a Tier IV DPF filter in the interest of SIMPLICITY then opt into the COMPLEXITY of a very rapidly spinning turbocharger.

There is no mid-PTO option for the Kubota L2501. I do not know about mid-PTO for the MF1726E.

I trust you will order an L2501/HST, which comes with a contemporary, independent PTO, not offered on the clutch and gear model L2501.

Alternately, let dealer proximity make your decision.

I was about to post the same thing as Jeff but he beat me to it.

Kubota L2501 - larger, less complex engine producing torque at lower rpm.

Also, Kubota is made by one company in the same factory from the wheels up. I like that.

There is no mid PTO option for the 1726 according to my dealer.

Simplicity is good.

You bet.

"Alternately, let dealer proximity make your decision."

This also favors Kubota in my case.

Thankee kindly.

Yes to all the above. The last part is news to me and another factor in favor of big Orange.

Why not look at a Massey 1734e? I was looking at the 26, but the dealership (which was very honest) sold me the 1734e for roughly the same price as the 1726.
