Hi all,

Start er up. Maybe idle at slow RPM for a few minutes. Is it ok to put in first gear and idle slowly
to fuel spot or to hook up equipment .Or don't move machine till warmed up.

Cheers.......Coffeeman

It's fine to move it around.

I move mine. I actually add some throttle (HST) to about 1000rpm. All my Toyota cars increase idle when cold- theory is to increase oil pressure.
The fact u r asking shows you have mechanical sympathy- that's about 90% if the battle! Enjoy

Count five, then drive.

The hydro system could use a little time in cold weather....

Since I was about 12 years old first lesson from Dad: "Check the oil boy". "you know oil is cheaper than bearings." My domain was the lawn mower and a Farmall H.
Taking care of equipment is second nature . Respecting equipment saves $$, in my opinion.

I typically let mine idle for a minute or so before moving it and keep the RPM's relatively low for a few more minutes. 1500 RPMs is the suggested minimum to keep coolant flowing well so it doesn't overheat so I don't go much over that till it's warmed up good. If I'm gonna mow I even run the mower deck at lower RPMs for a minute or so before ramping up to mowing speed. On a regular lawn mower, no. But on my PTO driven, hydraulic gear box, ridiculous expensive mid mount mower, I sure do. I know I sure don't jump out of bed and take off at full speed and no mechanical equipment should either. It drives me nuts when people fire up their car and their hand leaves the key (or start button) straight to the gear shift and off they go. I take it easy on my truck for the first mile or two also. I guess I've just seen to many failures of mechanical equipment or machines due to going full speed to soon.

Do you let your car "warm up" before driving it? I don't know anyone who would ask the question concerning their cars, so why would anyone ask regarding a tractor? With modern oils it makes no difference as to whether it's a car, truck, or tractor. Drive it.

If it is very cold out, it is better to warm your tractor up. Even if you use Amsoil. :D

I'm of the school if it's running at just above 1k rpm then it's a moot point if the vehicle is moving slowly or parked. In below freezing temps of NH once started letting it idle only wasted gas. Get it slowly moving in gear just above idle.

Never let it lug or punch it for the first 5 or so min.

My tractor's manual explicitly requires warm-up time, and even gives a temperature/time chart. I start it, add/remove implements as needed, and chug off to the work area; it's usually warm by then. I don't like to have it sit and spin that hour meter.
