Just received new Provonost Puma 74".
Uncrated and assembly of chute/motor looks fairly simple, only owners manual included.
Any tips or recommendations gladly accepted.
I read somewhere of chute rotation line up prior to operation, can not seem to find thread.
Thanks.

Congratulations on your purchase, you have a very well built snow blower that will most likely out live your current mule.
Is your Pronovost Puma snowblower equipped with both hydraulic rotation and spout angle control?

Do you have the hydraulic connectors to hook the hoses up to your rear remote?

As long as the chute and spout are centered and the wear ring is installed(if it has a plastic wear ring)you can install the chain and connect both ends with the master link and then adjust it for tension.

The chain has to be tight on both sides as the spout rotates in in two directions to prevent any slack from causing it to jam up. you can use some fluid film or PB blaster to keep it lubed up as needed. The fluid film spray is a great slick spray to get rid of heavy wet snow and spraying the chute and spout with it will help you tremendously when clearing the wet stuff.

I use fluid film on my john deere junk snow blower and my beautiful Toro Snow Pups and it does wonders for clearing snow.

Got as much as I could get finished. The chute is rotated with orbit motor. Spout angle is manual. The top and tilt take the other two hydraulic controls. Called the Kubota dealer, as the male hyd couplers, are Kubota matched with their top/tilt and the remote station they installed when I bought the tractor. Of course they need to order the couplers. Another week. They will make up hoses, should be plug and play. The only thing I'm a bit concerned with at the moment is depth of motor gear drive with chute gears. Too much and I'll get premature wear, too little and excessive play. I wish they would have provided some "easy to follow instructions", but got it done just the same. Not that difficult, just a little more time consuming figuring it all out, and having to disassemble/reassemble motor bracket in order to get proper line up. Thats what you get when you live in a one horse town, 280 miles from the nearest dealer. Provonost shipped direct to me, rather than to dealer which would have been a two day affair traveling/hotel/losing money at the casino, etc.....

Hello Rich,

If I remember correctly they use a Char Lynn Geroller motor for the chute control.
If you can find the ID of the drive gear you can quickly obtain the correct spacing
for the drive and driven gear.

Congrats on getting a very nice snowblower. Hope the assembly goes smoothly. Snowtime will be here before you know it.

Was the Kubota dealer able to order it for you? Do you know how much the shipping was from Pronovost? I talked to a Pronovost dealer and he said the shipping for a Puma 84 from Pronovost to Idaho would be about $1K.

Just waiting on hose couplings now. Not too many Provonost dealers out here. My Kubota dealer let me ship to their business, and I drove up to pickup. Shipping to Medford OR was $850, which I thought was pretty high, but I think there are fees entering the USA which results in higher price. It arrived three days after it left Quebec. Call Darin he gave me the best price, Alpine Smith, Inc. | Snow Removal, Tractors & Equipment

Thanks for the info. I'll give Alpine a call. How did you find out about a business in S.Lake Tahoe? I guess it's a long way to Quebec from the western US and shipping heavy things that far is just expensive. How is the assembly going? I've driven through your area several times on the I-5; it's a very nice area and must get a lot of snow.

Hello RichM752,

If you send the Pronovost sales department an e-mail with your question tonight they should get back to you by tuesday and I believe they have a toll free number to call with any questions.

If I remember my gear adjustment days correctly a piece of notebook paper should pass through the mating set tightly to obtain the proper amount of backlash as the gear set and the spout gear operate in both directions so there should be very little play if any.

I'm done with assembly. It wasn't bad. Probably could have been done in 60 minutes, had they provided detail instructions, rather than just a owners manual with an exploded view of the machine. I could probably do it in 30 minutes now. Had I opted to drive and pick up at the dealer, they would have assembled it. Never the less, any questions I had were promptly answered via phone, after I had texted photo's with inquiries.
Going to Provonost's website you can search for their dealers.
We get a fair amount of snow here. The house is almost 1000' higher inn elevation than town, you'd be surprised the difference in amount of snow fall we get.
