My buddy sent these today. Look how the load extender has been dragging and ground down. 1506213319131.jpg1506213323533.jpg

Holy crap. Six hundred and twenty-seven pages of screw-ups.

During the "enforcement blitz" the DOT does every June, flatbed trucks are picked for way over their share of inspections. The reason is that the inspectors get rewarded for fines and tickets, and a good inspector can find a violation on almost any flatbed. The rules are very complicated; how many straps per item, how much weight per strap, etc. I used to see trucks go by me all the time on the way to Houston who didn't have their loads of shingles properly secured.

It was first 18 wheeler but second truck. I just can't believe the complete reliance by a professional driver on GPS.

I worked for 10 years as a driver at Toys R Us. When they ran the transportation, we had a book with exact directions to every store. When they outsourced the transportation to JB Hunt, I stayed on and gave them my book full of instructions. Every new driver (and there was a constant stream of them, unlike the 5% turnover under TRU) was told to look in the master book and make a copy of the directions to any location he hadn't been to yet. And they still would depend on their GPS, the most fickle friend a trucker ever had. We had several stores that if you didn't know what parking lot entry to use, you would end up behind the store facing the dock with no way to turn around. And we had one store (Fayetteville, AR), that if you followed the GPS and ended up in front of the store, you could not get to the dock behind the store. You had to know to leave, go somewhere else, and come back with the proper turns to end up behind the store.

Give the guy a brake. He probably went back in to get some duct tape to tie er down!

The little lawn tractor already does have a "brake".
Maybe the owner should take a break though.

About a mile from here is the old original Peterbilt site that became a shopping center back in the 1960's...

Several times a month I will see a big rig stuck on the upper exit ramp from the shopping center... the trailer landing gear wedged tight to the tractor rear wheels are raised enough to loose traction... The trucks drive up the incline and get stuck where it levels off...

There are signs saying No Truck Exit but I guess some need to experience it for themselves.
