I got the internal steel retaining ring off the shaft with no problem. Replaced the seals and am now reassembling. Is there a trick to getting that steel ring back on the shaft? Ken Sweet

The steel retaining ring is #3 and it goes on the end of the shaft and is accessed through the port at the base of the cylinder. Ken Sweet

Hi Ken, I haven't worked on these single-acting rams before and I think I'm glad about that... and I may be missing something but:

You have the upper one pictured (RE17356)?

What does the snap-ring do? I can't imagine needing to attempt to work it over the end of the rod by poking something through the 'access port' at the base of the cylinder. That hole is the connection for the hydraulic hose??

Why can't the snap-ring go onto the rod before it inserts into the cylinder?

Curiously, the alternative cylinder assembly (lower pic AL36565) doesn't use a snap-ring :)confused:)
