Did you read where I actually socialize with LEO's? My point, which apparently you missed, is you are far better off being cautious than assuming that any LEO has the best intentions for you when you're dealing with them on their "professional level" because YOU are a person of interest to them. Do I think that the majority of LEO's have good intentions? Probably so. That said, I have no clue who I'm dealing with so I will be protective of my rights as a citizen of this country which we are afforded. You on the otherhand, apparently view that philospophy as being paranoid. Like I said before, you notice when that nurse in Utah was being arrested and yet NO ONE in uniform standing around the situation stepped in just to inform the arresting officer that perhaps he may be overstepping his bounds? The fact is if good officers say or do nothing when they see inappropriate actions taken by their co-workers, at least to myself, it makes them just as accountable for their lack of actions.

Yeah, I myself was very curious about that "bystander effect". No one seemed to lift a finger to intervene.

On the other hand, if I had the grease gun in plain sight where I couldn't reach it, say, strapped to the back of the backhoe, the cop could easily see it and wouldn't fuss about it. That way the cop would just let me go without emptying my grease gun first.

But wait! What if the cop eas a displaced city slicker who didn't know what a grease gun was? This is all so complicated...

Apparently you have to be careful with that... The way some people on this thread view the authorities, they would assume that cop would plant an unregistered and illegal grease gun on your tractor, illegally search your tractor to find it, and then probably abuse their powers of arrest, while committing police brutality against you. Then they'll probably siphon the fuel out of your tractor for their own uses, all while the rest of the department stands around and watches.

LOL I think some people are watching way too much CNN.

No, the correct answer is, he would probably want his zerks serviced for free. Probably more likely would want free backhoe work.

Surprising how many active and retired cops think they should get free service/stuff and or discounts.

Happens to me and small business people I know. They make over 100K and some retired are raking in 80K plus benefits. Guess they are hard pressed to pay like the rest of us.

Over the years I have had my share of tickets, some well deserved some not.
One that will burn me forever is when I pulled over (and had to cross a red light) which I did with great caution as an ambulance was hooting and bleeping for me to move over.
What I did not know was a LEO was nearby and that cost me a serious ticket (and points).
I will tell you that I now NEVER move for any siren or any emergency vehicle !

Nor does my wife as when she once did the emergency vehicle clipped her fender and guess who paid. (we have 'no fault here' which means you pay to fix yours and he pays for his. (Fire truck bumpers don't even get a scratch but a Nissan fenders can't take it)

An attorney confirmed that LEO's and other emergency vehicles are ruled by the same laws as other vehicles but are 'tolerated'.
I recently learned that postal vehicles also enjoy the special tolerances.
Shucks even an off duty volunteer fireman enjoys those privileges. (perhaps not in all jurisdictions but for sure in my neck of the woods)

Nope, whoop, holler, play siren all U want, I don't move any more!

I see now where I went wrong. When I read the highlighted sentence above, I misunderstood it to mean piloon would never move over again under any circumstances on any roadway. Had I stuck to the parameters of the story, I would have never said a disparaging word. Also, my use of demeaning superlatives was uncalled for in any situation. And finally, I broke the social forum prime directive of typing as if we were talking face to face, where I would never speak in the manner that I typed. Piloon, I apologize.

Yeah, I agree. I just don't think a law violator's behavior can be blamed on a small percentage of bad LEOs. Although "Legal Guns for Hire" (Lawyers) try it all the time. :)

in general , no, but in a specific case where a bad cop caused behavior that DIRECTLY led to someone doing something that is otherwise illegal, but he has found out that NOT doing so gets him punished.. then you have a direct cause and effect. IE.. the story Piloon related. That is a specific case of cause and effect.

The last I checked, a M3A1 was going for over $15,000. You got one on your backhoe, I wouldn't worry about it as you could probably buy your way out of any trouble:D

For every one of those you can find, I can find 100 of citizens abusing LEOs. Is this truly going to be your justification??

Bad cops are bad cops.. quit sugar coating it.

Yes.. cops deal with bad people often...and when you deal with bad people, bad things happen. It can be assumed, as a JOB HAZARD, if you are a soldie or law enforcement.. that you will have to deal with people and use force, and have force used against you. That is your JOB. Firemen deal with FIRE and falling structures, and crumpled cars.. it's their JOB.

Bad cops are worse than bad...
