Some of my neighbors have installed up lights in their landscaping. Now my wife wants some. Anyone put some in? Is it a fairly easy project? Let me know what I'm getting into.

Two types- low voltage and standard voltage. Most "home owner" lights come in a kit with a 12v transformer that includes a timer, wire and the lights. Since the wire is low voltage it's typically (almost always) direct bury with little or no code compliance issues.
Junk is real junk when dealing with electrical and moisture so spring for some nicer lights that are rated well- or plan on a new hobby maintaining said junk- and appeasing the wife. They typically connect by piercing the low voltage wire so that seal is important. Beyond that its style and brightness.

The transformer is typically rated for outdoor locations so the only shore power needed is a plug located outside.

The project isn't too difficult. Picking the lights and burning the wire will be the two chores.

Good luck and enjoy!

Please don't. We have enough atmospheric light pollution.

OK, ok, go ahead, but please put them on a timer to cut them off after 10pm.

My wife has been extremely concerned with atmospheric light pollution so I might be able to talk her out of this.

But it is a pain when you go by your drive at night when you can't see the turn.

But they don't need to be "up" lights. Can't they be down lights (not shining up into the night sky? Jon

Reflectors might also fit the bill and would be easier and cheaper.
