Do you shake your chainsaw?

Filling a jar with fuel mix and observing it is a very good idea. I think I'll try it. I don't recall seeing any information on the oil saying that it stays in suspension. For those like Spanner and myself, who grew up shaking the fuel mix that would be a good selling point.

1OO shakes does get old. I used to hang out in a group about chainsaws. That's where I got the idea.

I was kidding about the sticky bar oil. It's one of the best things since sliced bread. You're right about me being behind the times, that's why I posted the question.

I think MANY of our traditions are based on a similar premise. We have no idea why we do them, other than "that was the way I was taught to do it". It amazed me how many old men on this forum "fessed up" that they had no idea a grease gun coupler unscrewed to loosen the jaws.

I use synthetic. Once mix'd, Never seems to separate. I tend to slosh the can a little after it sits a month or so. ( subconsciously )..

If my chainsaw has sat for more than a couple of hours and definitely overnight I shake it or at least rock it 100 times on the theory that the oil and gasoline have begun to separate. I also do this with my fuel can. I don't recall ever seeing directions to do this and don't even know whether two cycle oil and gasoline do separate. Am I wasting my time?

I have never had a reason to think mixture separates over a period of time, have no idea whether it does or not.
Yes, I shake mixture before putting in tank, out of habit.
I also shake the implement because it servers two purposes--
It assures a well mixed mixture
It creates a small amount of fuel tank pressure, in newer saws, to help the carb diaphragm pump gas.

I'm gone for months at a time so I pour Stabil into every can for the boat and chainsaw. When I pick up the can I usually give it a quick shake or two.
Boat always starts without a shake and runs ok.
My buddy has a big ol Merc on his other boat about 100 miles away.
It will not run on old gas.
Every year it's become a ritual for us to go there running on empty and drain the gas out of the boat and put it in his suburban and drag the boat to the station for its annual refill.

I have seen dirt settle out of used motor oil but never seen mixed gas separate.

Me, too, just out of habit. And I'm a bit liberal with my use of Stabil and I use Stihl Ultra HP synthetic oil.
