Did your wife's mom have something against that generator? Did you build the house? Maybe there is something hidden in the wall behind or under the generator?

I'm not a person that dwells on the supernatural, but I am open to the idea that strange things happen. Interesting.....

We built the house. MIL told me she was very thankful for her and her husband to spend their end days there and she liked it very much. I went out of my way to take extra care of her. She knew we liked and needed the generator and watched one time when we had a problem with it. They lived well into their 90's and got first rate care and attention with us and never viewed as an inconvenience or unwelcome.

How big are your dogs?

Big enough and sleep with one eye open. They notice the slightest sound and anything out of the ordinary.

The original position of the generator wheels... someone sprayed something on the floor or used a cleaning chemical that left a film. Or the tires have a film on them. The generator was moved BEFORE she mopped. She mopped and the water repelled off the location where the generator tires originally were.

Are they big (heavy) enough to to have bumped the generator if something startled them or something?

Aliens, definitely aliens. Wait till the **** probing starts, then you will know for sure.

Maybe the truth is the simplest explanation? How about this, the generator wasn't moved two inches. You and your wife are simply mistaken. As Carl Sagan once said "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence". He was referring to UFOs being from another planet. When there are multiple possible explanations for an unexplained phenomenon people tend to believe the most improbable one rather that the most likely one.

Yep, I vote for the above.

Hey, sometimes people NEED some good campfire stories in their life. As long as it stays light....it stays fun. Happy early Halloween to all!

This is intriguing, it looks like you have ruled out every conceivable reason, save for an elaborate prank. I'm assuming that this is the first type of this kind of thing happening, has there been any other instances of odd occurrences? Since the dogs didn't react, that doesn't bode well for paranormal, unless it's incredibly localized. Coast is soliciting stories for the annual Ghost to Ghost show, perhaps getting it out there can draw out more theories.
