Hi,

Taking apart my Ford 1900 from 1983 which I recently purchased.
Of course need to fix things which are not broken.... so typical me....leading to breaking things which arent even broken.
Anyway, I saw my tachometer was jumping up and down while reving so I loosend the wire "screw" from the enging and then suddenly the cable just fell down from inside the dashboard...it probably never was fixed(screwed) in at the botton of the tachometer.
So I looked alittle how to get it in place and it seems there is no room anywhere for me hands to reach up from beneath to the tachometer.
Looked a little how to remove or just lift up the dashboard but I cant find so many screws...but still it seems very fixed. So many cables and steering wheel, throttle.....seems dangerous ;)

Any ideas how I could get the wire up there and also screw the "nut" at the end on the tachometer?

Thanks,

Martin from Sweden

Pictures would help if you can get em.

When I swapped the tach on our 1500 I had to unscrew the horn, that gave me enough clearance to get access to the bolts on the back on the tach bracket + cable assembly without tearing apart the dash.

Hi and thanks,
I tried uploading some pictures yesterday but there where some issues. My horn is located on the cooler so that wouldent help ;) .
But I found one entrance as I took away some isolation which I had at the bottom. I could barely stick up my hand but I think I can access the tachometer.
I can assume that the horn maybe is located there normally. My 1900 had a cabin before and thats why they probably moved the horn....
Anyway thanks a lot. Appreciated

Not sure exactly how a 1900 goes together but on my 1710 there is a bolt down low on the panel on each side - take those out and you can slide the dash panel up the steering column and get lots of access.

I have some bolts on the side but I have not tried loosen them since I dont know if nuts will fall off. More worried about the two top round objects where I see nuts under the dashboard which I cant resch... IMG_3224.JPG

The two bolts on the side are what attaches the dash panel to the framework for the dash. If you go a bit lower there are three bolts that attach the dash frame to the tractor. here is a photo of my 1710 from the right side. The three larger boltheads right behind the bend in the rod the bolt into the casting. take those three out on each side and the entire dash panel will slide up giving you plenty of room.

Well, you cant see it on my pic, but I have a complete sheet metal plate behind the dash. That plate which probably is hold by the two+two screws on the side, is also in some way connected to the strange "bolt" like things on the top. In your pic it seems like a rubber things (from below) and in my pic you can see them as painted in the top front. But I will give it a try.
Thanks,

/Martin
