Currently living in Florida but moving to Georgia when I retire in a few years. I will finally realize my dream of owning some acreage! I will most likely need/want a tractor and know nothing about them so I joined to glean as much info as I can in the next few years to make my eventual purchase a little easier.

Welcome aboard!
One thing to keep in mind is that generally it's not the tractor but it's the attachments that really get things done.
I was at your stage back in 2009.

TBN is an excellent resource for info on all things "small" tractor related (< 100 HP), rural land and living.

Welcome to TBN.

I've been around tractors all my life and have owned land for 40 years. Entered the Retirement world six years ago. Two things I know about retirement. I highly recommend it and the hours are great!!!!! :)

You are right to start your education now. When you read about a certain brand that you are interested in, follow that up with a visit to their dealership. Nothing you read here can replace five minutes in the seat. At first go when the dealership is closed if you can access their tractors. You don't need a salesman clouding your thoughts just yet. You simply need to realistically know the difference between a SCUT, CUT and/or Utility tractor.

When you start this process open a thread here with questions and pictures. You'll get more "advice" than you can process. :)

But the boss can be a cruel taskmaster! I always am thinking of new projects to do, then I have to tell my self to do them and constantly pull QC on the project.

Yep, I am my own worst boss. Total slave driver. All my friends and family say I work harder now than when I had a job. I'd agree. Difference is I do what I want to do when I want to do it now. I totally don't have time for a "job" now.

Also, I never seem to know what day of the week it is. :)

Get the right sized tractor to do the job. Too small is frustrating and too large is a waste of money. First step is to define the "job" by making a list of the tasks you want to accomplish. Don't get hung up on a specific tractor brand. However, the major brands like John Deere, Kubota, Massey Ferguson, New Holland tend to be more reliable. Dealer location and competence is also another important factor. Georgia is a great state, lived there several years, you will enjoy it.

Welcome to the forum. We are all very good at spending other people's money.:D

Congrats on your upcoming retirement, hope it all works out just as you would wish it too.

With any luck I'll retire within the next year some time.
