...At least most journalists have degrees...

Perhaps some remember the two (supposed) "journalists" that were employed by al gore and had to be rescued from N. Korea by bill clinton? They worked for whatever looney-toon television network that gore owned...and they made such a big deal because they were "journalists"...

Well it so happens that one of women had no college at all the one only had a minor degree in some sort of fashion design from some obscure school...but they were journalists...!

I have a Kimber Ultra Carry, SS, night sights, .45 acp, 7 mag and 1 in the pipe. Weights 2 lbs loaded. More accurate than me.

I've seen a few.. lots of thump in a small package.

Nope. Because a good police officer considers in every car stop that all persons are armed. Every car stop is dangerous until it isn't.

Maybe if we went back to the day a cop didn't treat & believe everybody he/she meets is a dangerous armed criminal, police/public relations might improve.

Or maybe back to the day when an LEO was respected rather than suspected.

Not likely to happen but it would really be nice.

They might get more respect if the :didn't treat & believe everybody he/she meets is a dangerous armed criminal.

Its a chicken/egg problem for sure.

One thing that has changed is instant media coverage.

In 1950, if someone was working a racket, some were scared, some looked the other way, someone got railroaded, and nobody past a few people ever heard about it.

Now with street cams, security cams, interstate and hiway sensors, body and, live streams, etc.. The world is fairly live 24/7.

As has been said. 1 bad cop can make 1000 others look bad.

Same way one drop of fuel oil can foul over 4 gallons of potable water.

They had respect, they lost it.
Getting it back will be hard especially with cellphone cams & body cams, etc.

Here in Ohio, a volunteer firefighter/EMT responding in his personal vehicle is a "public safety vehicle" just like a fire truck. The fire truck or EMS is not going to get to your house fire if the crew cannot get to the station.

You are required to move over to the curb as much as possible. You are not authorized to bust a red light however. The public safety vehicle can do that, with caution.

Yes postal vehicles and mail carriers in their personal vehicles rule the road. My girlfriend is an ex carrier. As she explains it, if a carrier loses control and cross the center line and hits you head on while you are stopped, it is all your fault. Beware of mail carriers!

Over the years I have had my share of tickets, some well deserved some not.
One that will burn me forever is when I pulled over (and had to cross a red light) which I did with great caution as an ambulance was hooting and bleeping for me to move over.
What I did not know was a LEO was nearby and that cost me a serious ticket (and points).
I will tell you that I now NEVER move for any siren or any emergency vehicle !

Nor does my wife as when she once did the emergency vehicle clipped her fender and guess who paid. (we have 'no fault here' which means you pay to fix yours and he pays for his. (Fire truck bumpers don't even get a scratch but a Nissan fenders can't take it)

An attorney confirmed that LEO's and other emergency vehicles are ruled by the same laws as other vehicles but are 'tolerated'.
I recently learned that postal vehicles also enjoy the special tolerances.
Shucks even an off duty volunteer fireman enjoys those privileges. (perhaps not in all jurisdictions but for sure in my neck of the woods)

Nope, whoop, holler, play siren all U want, I don't move any more!

I think you should check your state's statutes. I haven't kept up with any changes lately in Texas, but I do know that it used to be that the officer was within his rights to take the gun from you initially, and then return it when you're free to go; exactly the opposite of what you stated.

Yes, totally dependent on state law.

In Ohio, an officer can take possession for the duration of the traffic stop. At the conclusion, the firearm must be returned unless the person is arrested.

Just so you guys are aware, in Michigan that used to be that when an officer ran your license plate, your license number was run as well and your CPL license would come up in the search results. But that changed about a year ago, and your CPL license no longer comes up with a license plate search. Lobbyists cried and said it was an invasion of privacy and the legislators made the change. Just FYI

In Ohio, it is to our advantage if it pops up on their screen. If one fails to inform and the cop already knows you have a CHL, it is a misdemeanor. If the cop does not know, it is a felony!

We are trying to get the notification requirement removed, but it is a political mess.
