One problem with the religious based hospitals, pretty much all catholic, is that there are very few folks going into their orders. Many orders have closed chapters all over the country, and in the rest of the world.

What did them in here was the requirement to provided family planning services... the Nuns were unwilling to bend and exhausted all appeals... the ironic thing is the local Saint Rose Hospital did the lions share of providing medical services to the uninsured...

Agree it should be more cost efficient. But haven't seen that happening.

$20 for topical
$380.75 for material
$611.32 for level 3 room charge

Total hospital billed $1012.07

Physician billed
$669 for the physician
$486 for "sugery"

Total physician bill.....$1,155

Total bill was $2,167.07

High ded plan so still under deductible. So insurance pays nothing. But has "Discounted" rates.

So total I actually owe....$1,777.11

Wow. Good thing we have Obamacare; it would have been much worse otherwise.

My wife had a stent about 15 years ago, including an overnight stay in the hospital. My first bill was $32,000. She was in the hospital for about 5 days with our firstborn, as I recall, and the total bill, including doctor was about $600.

The bill for my wife's birth in a hospital in Laconia, NH, in 1948: $ 37.00.

In Canada we all pay via our taxes, OK some more than others and a few that know how to scam the system get off 'scot-free'.

(I know of some that come north for free medicare and even one that lives in Central America with another that is actually a Germain citizen.)

I think we've lost our way and become a less kinder, gentler society. Health care isn't something like a nice new car, or a big ole house or even going out for dinner at a fancy restaurant every night, that would thoroughly tick me off if i was paying for someone else.

I dont understand how this country has gone from co-operative society my parents talked of, where people help each other and great things are done for everyone at a a cost to everyone. It seems we've been convinced that if i have to pay for something, that someone else might benefit from, that it's a commie/socialist plot, therefore evil.
