Ok, so this thread got pretty far off topic. Ended up laying down my welds this past weekend and I had pretty good results. What I did was buy a copper bar. I clamped the bar about 1/4" over from the center of my bead and then used the bar to guide me. Worked really well.

Last year I made some skid shoes for my snow bucket. I wanted to hard face them to reduce their wear from the gravel.

Yep. I should have done that to a pair I made for a snow blade. Fortunately our snowfall is minimal enough that they'll outlast me. :)
