What are you all charging for beef?

I just took two cattle into the butcher last Friday and was going to sell at the same what I did last year. What are you all selling or buying at, per pound to the freezer hanging weight?

My cattle are grass fed with no hormones given almost daily corn the last 2-3 months of there life, always on pasture.

P.S. I had all my beef sold 2 months before I took them in, posted on FB and within a day it was all called for but curious what people were charging. Thanks

3$ lb on the rail..buyer pays the butcher additional pkg costs.

market is in the toilet tho so maybe thinking of going 2.50 this winter when the grass goes off..i do it same as you..pick one off the pasture about 2 yrs old...

My nephew has been charging retail hamburger price (not the sale price). Buyer pays for cut and wrap. I think it was $3 on our last beef from him, will likely get another soon.

We charge 3.50$ a pound hanging and we pay the butcher and wrap fees. Never have trouble. I think we are a little on the cheap side here, probably getting just under $3.00 after we pay the butcher

I charge market price at the time I take it to the butcher. Live cost. I don't make any money. I really loose because Holsteins are cheaper than colored cattle on the market and they don't get fat from grass and you have to pour the grain to them. That's all I've ever raised and what (myself) I like for beef to eat.

Dumb question,,, maybe,, but, if you loose money why do you do it?

If you like to loose money, bring one to Roanoke VA and drop it in my pasture,,
that way,, you can loose money faster!! :laughing:

In 1982, we bought our 9.9 acres,, there were fences,,
We contacted a guy that had Angus, he agreed to sell us 4 bred heifers, and a bull.
We paid him $900 for all five, delivered,, and within 3 months,, we had nine animals.
We were in the cattle business for 4 years,,
it was fun,, but,, it was like a boat.
The two best days were when they arrived,, and when the last one left!! :thumbsup:

I grew up on a dairy and we did make money but never on the bull calves or raising them for beef. I just raise them for family and friends. Same with hogs just a couple at a time. You can't make money feeding hogs either. And I really don't like grass fattened beef for my taste buds. Was raise on grain feed Holsteins. Sorry but the four steers I have now are already spoken for. Same people keep coming back for more.

I sold all mine for 3.80 per pound hanging weight, I pay the butcher fees except on custom cuts, this butcher is around .55 per pound with kill fees, the last place I went to was .80.

I was just curious where others were at, I came up with this price last January when I took the last one in.

Ill let you know when I take mine in next spring. I can't remember what I paid last time, the old guy passed away and I'm looking for a honest and good butcher to go to. If I remember correctly it was 50 or 60 cents a pound.
