John Deere 110 TLB
Hi all,

I'm not trying to start a grease debate here, but what are you guys using in your 110 TLB's? The parts guy at my local dealer sold me a tube of the green SD Polyurea Grease TY6341, but when I referenced the manual, it mentions using a moly grease like HD Lithium Complex Grease with 3% Moly TY6333 (gray stuff).

Are these two greases above compatible? I'm guessing NO. Some of the fittings on the loader and hoe probably need something that can take some occasional shock/abuse and I'd like to try and use one type of grease if possible.

This is straight from the manual:
"IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Use recommended John Deere greases to avoid component failure and premature wear.
The recommended John Deere greases are effective within an average air temperature range of -29 to 135 degrees C (-20 to 275 degrees F).
If operating outside that temperature range, contact your Servicing dealer for a special-use grease.
The following grease is preferred:

キ John Deere Moly High Temperature EP Grease

If not using the preferred grease, be sure to use a general all-purpose grease with an NLGI grade No.2 rating.
Wet or high speed conditions may require use of a special-use grease. Contact your Servicing dealer for information."

I don't run my stuff nearly as much as a pro does, but I wouldn't be scared of running a NLGI grade 2 grease like the manual states. Biggest enemy is lack of grease followed by dirt/water getting in the joints.

If you plan to run a breaker or dig lots of rocks then maybe the higher grade grease makes sense.

I used to go with the JD moly grease. My newer tractors call for the JD urea stuff so, I switched. I didn't want to have multiple grease guns and figured it was backward compatible.

Our dealer keeps it simple, claim to use moly for mining/hd construction and poly for ag/all others. Dealers that may not have as much interaction with mining industry may be more likely to just stock the poly grease in any great qty.

My guess would be whatever grease is easy to get, cheap enough that you stock it and are not afraid to use it. Even the wrong grease is far better than not greasing it. I don't over worry about grease requirements, I buy Muscle Products PL-10 grease tubes by the case and use it like it's free. I have 580 hours on my cheap-O Craftsman mower deck and so far... knock on wood... I have replaced a total of 1 deck spindles. But I grease it with 2 pumps per fitting every second mow... or every 6-ish hours of running.

PL-10TM is an anti-wear, extreme-pressure, lithium-complex grease with anti-friction additives. PL-10TM is unique because its formulation contains Muscle Metal Treatment MT-10® technology for increased lubricity and boundary film lubrication. PL-10TM treats, seals and protects metal surfaces to dramatically reduce friction-related heat and wear.

PL-10TM is designed to meet the highest requirements for film strength, operating temperatures, stability and lubrication life, which are essential for the reliable operation of today’s industrial, automotive and commercial equipment.

We are convinced this is simply the best lithium-complex grease on the market!

I also have a 110 and i have been running Mobil synthetic red grease. Basically a wheel bearings grease. I have noticed it does not stay on the pins very long. I am going to go to a moly type people are talking about to get it to stick in there better. Worst thing is pumping expensive grease into it all the time but it is not staying where it should.

I've switched to the new WD-40 product. NLGI grade #2 all purpose.

But figure any grease is better than none... will see if I like this one..

don't like the ones that are black (graphite ??) and mess up clothes etc.

There is also a special one for water immersion applications.. maybe boat trailer wheel bearings.

Smith Tractor Parts sells the moly for about $4/tube...still pricey, but my local dealer wants over $12, so it's not bad.

Seriously... IIRC, the JD guys here are around $9/tube. Do they spray paint any of the parts on the shelf with gold spray paint, too??

Yes but... your profile shows you are in Alaska. Aren't you also paying close to $4.00 for a dozen eggs?
