Do deer know when it is hunting season?

The Christmas Tree farm is getting over run with them... I've counted two herds combined count of 28... the population seems to double every year on the farm.

Nice animal - will make a great wall mount. I doubt that deer know its hunting season but surely they notice the increased human activity and that they are being shot at.

Hunting season started Nov 4th, but it was really warm and there was a full moon. We also didn't have anything on the game camera, so we slept in and skipped that weekend. My neighbor has 240 acres and he only shoots hogs. We both shoot them all the time, so the deer are either used to it, or there is no way for them to know when it's deer season, or not. Across the creek, there is 460 acres of pure jungle. No roads through it, nobody lives on it or does anything with it. That's where all the hogs come from!!!

Once we started seeing the bucks on the game camera, we decided to start deer hunting Saturday morning. We didn't stay very long, and as the game camera pictures show, that was a mistake. That evening, we had a smaller 8 point walk by our blind and as it was about to leave the woods on it's way to our food plot, a hog showed up and spooked it back into the woods. Perfect timing to ruin that hunt. There was also another hog across our pond that I was taking pictures of. My wife wanted that buck, so we didn't shoot any of the hogs.

The hog in the picture showed up again the next morning too. But the buck Karen shot came from the opposite direction. At first, she thought it was a hog too. It's body was so big, and it was still in the brush, all she could see was something large coming our way. Once it entered the food plot, we knew right away that he was the one on the game camera we where hoping for, and that letting those pigs go was the right decision.

I shot the pig in the pictures last night.

If they are under 100 pounds, they are very good eating. Bigger then that, they get used for dog food. My wife makes our own dog food in several crock pots and when we shoot one, we use that meat instead of buying it at Sams.

Way to go. I know you are proud of her, and you get more pleasure from her shot than your own. Did yall sit in the nice shooting house you built couple years back?
