Except we now know that use of prescribed pain medication can morph (no pun intended) into abuse and addiction. Many heroin users got their start on Oxycodone. The manufacturer now admits that they under reported results of addiction studies. It's a serious problem, and one that is being felt in the medico-legal context.
Only by the Grace of God, I suppose, have I not experienced debilitating pain and had to depend upon an addictive pain medication to cope. In 66 years, I've probably taken no more than 10 prescribed pain pills. Ice, heat, balms and ibuprofen have provided just enough relief for me to get by. I was never willing to take a chance on addiction.
