Snobs moving to the country

I said it before. I swear the average price of a vehicle seen on the street in our local small town goes up thirty to sixty grand on the weekends. Can't be a good feeling for people struggling. I get that.

I moved to KY from PA in February. Having surgery that spring, it was maybe July or August until I got to putting in fencing for my horses. I had a mailman that pretty much could do a good Santa Claus routine. Friendly fellow, he saw me out there on one hot day, stopped and offered that "around here, most folks wait until it's a bit cloudy or cooler to do that kind of work". LOL, I said, "well, if your neighbors think that you are a bit crazy then they will let you alone". He chuckled and went about his way but always waved afterwards.

At my last place in PA actually, my average for shooting groundhogs was about 60/year. I usually dressed in camo on the days I was out shooting. Maybe it was the camo or the sound of a 22-250 but nobody ever bothered me there? But then the guy somewhere up behind me would have his buddies out firing an AK every now and then and we were like 2 miles from a gun range?

We used to use an H&K 7.62. Or the AR in 5.56. Few things I am ashamed of doing in my past, but this was one of them. A lot of excuses why, but it boiled down to entertainment, and that's about as sick human behavior as you can get.

I also live on a dead end road - I have 30 acres and plow my driveway and also plow an elderly ladies driveway. To me it is worth it just to receive the nice thank you card she sends me each year. I use my John Deere Buck 650 ATV to plow with and one year she sends me a note saying how much she loved seeing my big "John Henry" plowing her driveway - I still get a kick out of it.

Our road only has about 10 houses and I wave to everyone - whether I get a reply or not.

In Texas, in and around our small towns, we wave to our neighbors and anyone we meet driving on 2 lane roads. We say hello to complete strangers in the grocery or at the local WallyWorld. We greet the folks working / shopping in our stores as though we’ve known them for years.

When we meet up with our city friends, visiting the country for the weekend, we say “good morning, how are you”.

We help our neighbors at the drop of a hat. They do the same.

Now, in Houston, Dallas, Austin, all bets are off. They have been over run by liberal cockroaches fleeing from the liberal cities they already screwed up.

True story.

Dallas.... liberal?

Yes. Every elected official in Dallas County is democrat. The shift was complete in the 2008 elections. The suburbs-e.g Collin County, are very conservative.
