Snobs moving to the country

Great stories, guys! Keep it up!

I find that, up at the cottage, the guys with pick up trucks are the most likely to wave. Especially if you were on your tractor. They are probably all thinking "Gee, I wish I had one of those!"

In any case, anyone that I waive at tends to wave back.

There use to be joke in the "Hood" about waving.

When the person waved could you see all the fingers or just one...

I lived on a private road for years and was the only one who ever did road maintenance. Nobody else on the road ever offered to help, though one guy did stop and ask, "What are you doing that for?"

The world is full of people with no brains, no skills, and no responsibility. The rest of us just have to carry them.

I have found their have been snobs in the country for quite some time. For example, guy behind me has maybe 80 acres or so with a small cattle operation. Part of his property connects with my 10 acres. 2 years ago I saw a dead cow fairly close to my property, I think she died calving. So I took the time to drive up there to tell them. The wife was nice and thanked me but the husband was a dick. They never did anything, left the stinking **** thing there rotting. Last year, same thing, dead cow in the creek bed. I drove up there, the husband and son were outside. I told them about the cow. The said, yep, probably died having a calf. We will go take a look, never did do anything, left the **** thing there rotting and smelling to high heaven. This year, same thing again. I guess they really don't care about their livestock or their neighbors so FK em

I'm the new guy in my area. It's in the country with maybe 15 houses on my road. several properties are less than 1/2 acre and some are 50-100 acres.

We only have 1 acre. most of the neighbors wave, but a few refuse to. Some of them just stare me down when i'm working outside or using the tractor.. One older lady would star every time she passed and i was outside. Until one day when i was cleaning up the mess(piles of dirt and limbs) the sewer company and light company made in my ditch, which had been there from before i moved in about 2-3 months . She stopped and i killed the tractor to be able to hear. She said we were cleaning the place up nicely and it was a change from what they were used to seeing living there. She said there were always renters there and they would chain dogs up all over the yard, leave trash everywhere, never cut their grass, and were very loud.

So now she waves whenever she sees me and most of the other neighbors do too.. I guess they were just used to trouble living there.. I try to be friendly with everyone, but it doesn't really bother me if they don't want anything to do with me.... I cleaned the neighbors downed trees up that he had been throwing on the property line and mowed all of that... never heard a word about it good or bad...

Good thread. Same experience here. But with more and more people inhabiting the area, who can keep track of who drives what? And to wave at everyone without knowing who they are, might get people to wonder if you're not all there. I'm not all there anyway (by conventional standards) , but that's another story.

So many people in the urban areas speed up when they see your indicator wanting to get into their lane. Do you really want to be waving at these people?

That's what a tractor with a front loader is for. I would move it to his yard for his convenience. Just being a good neighbor, you know.

Some people are so insecure or stricken with inferiority complexes that they only see you bringing something negative about them to their attention as an attack of some sort.

We're used to it around here...
This county is quite rural and mountainous but it is also considered a "resort" community at least part of it is...there is a wide dichotomy in social levels...

About half the county is typical country folks with family farms/gardens and lots of cattle and hay farming...most of the original larger farms have been converted to either wineries/vineyards...or farm to table restaurants and B&B's...

...The other half of the population live along the shores of three major mountain lakes (hydroelectric impoundments)...There are several thousand houses that are built on lots leased by the power company...the houses on the lake lots run from about $900K to more than $12M with the average being about $4M...That is a lot of "high society" for a small rural community where the largest town only has about 3K citizens...so we get all kinds at the Wal-mart and the Home Depot...!
