no way did the dealer give 49,000 for a 2 year old truck no matter how nice. guy gives 60,000 for a new truck and is not sure about the numbers? Deal is always set up to show high trade as it keeps sales tax lower.
A guy at work did something similar. Took his 2012 F250 (CCLB, Diesel w/5th wheel hitch) in for new tires and an oil change. For the price of new tires and the oil change they got him into a 2014 F250 (CCLB, Diesel w/5th wheel hitch) and he gained air conditioned seats. Same payment, same time left on the loan.
We give him grief from time to time asking if its time for new tires, I mean a new truck.

Those are just crazy insane truck prices nowadays. My 2008 2500HD was around 30k.

Yup, and amazing how they can discount them 10-15 K at the end of the model year, and still be making money.

No doubt the pricing on new and used trucks is nuts, but so are the buyers. People think nothing of shelling out $60K or more on a truck nowadays, and the manufacturers milk the cash cow for all it's worth.

When I bought my GMC in 2014, it stickered at $46K which I thought was ridiculous. That was the cost penalty for crew cab, 4x4, 6.5' bed (still with cloth seats and no major frills). I could have had a work truck, regular cab 4x2 8' bed, for about $25K, which seems like a bargain. But add the features that make it into more of a family vehicle and the cost soars almost double. I am sure that's where the manufacturers make a lot of profit. Most trucks are used more as family vehicles nowadays it seems.

GM had their usual rebates which brought my truck down to $38K, and I got $10K trade for my wife's old car, so in the end I shelled out $28K which made it tolerable. But it gave me a lot of insight into the truck market and I really think it's nuts.

By having the prices up in the 50's to 60's, it makes you "feel" like you're getting a good deal if they give you 11,000 off.

Still, $40,000 for a half ton truck is crazy.

Well, here is what happened... Thursday afternoon I called the dealer about picking up my truck, but it wasn't going to be ready and couldn't pick it up till next week. So Wifey say's she would like a new truck tomorrow instead. . Her's is a 2015 f150 Platinum and she knew our dealer had a 2018 Black on Black Platinum that she really liked. So.... I called the dealer back and asked; he was more than accomodating, and we made the deal. Platinum is an FX4, absolutely loaded and stickered at nearly $68k with bed rug, tonneau, mud flaps, and a couple other things. He brought it down to 60k and gave us $42k for her trade. So, now Wifey is thrilled, and I'm out 18k... Anyway, I asked if I could look at "my truck". Sure thing... they bring it around and the inside is filthy, and reekes of cigar smoke. The dealer stood there mortified, and speechless. I told him I may not take it and we would talk about it later today. Wifey say's I should just go new and forget about it. My truck is 100% write off and no big deal, her's is our "personal Vehicle" with no write off at all. So now I'm back to where I started...

100% write... I would get everything on it too. Mr.Wolfe go new!

All “write-off”does is help me pay less taxes, so even 100% write-off is only worth about 25-28% in actual dollars come tax time. The way I look at it is that the gov is simply not dinging me for that portion of business income that is spent on business equipment/vehicle. Now, how do I get the other 72-75% back to make the truck free??
