The reason the motor ran backwards for one minutes my wife was driving it when it happened. I was about 250 yards away when it happened. She was turning around in the woods when she got up against a tree and almost stalled it. She couldn't figure out why the tractor wouldn't move with the motor running and was fiddling around with the pedals. By the time I could get there with one bad leg, it took me over a minute.
The tractor is back at the dealer right now and I could not make it run backwards either but when we lugged it down a little it would kill the motor every time. Even the dealer service manager and the JD factor rep. said they wouldn't except that on there tractor but that is the nature of the beast. We tried two other 4700 HST and they did the same thing but when we tried the 4300 HST It worked fine. I think the 4700 would work great for mowing grass but when you start pulling stumps and logs and digging big boulders it's the wrong machine. I had the dealer try to pull another tractor and when we hit the breaks a little he let off the pedal it stalled out every time. I don’t know if all HST tranys do that I have never owned one before. John Deere rep is still trying to figure out if there is anymore they can do to help make it work better.
