Hmmm, my niece just texted she got engaged and, (and this is a big and), she wants to get married on our hill in July, you know, when it's 112˚ in the shade. She was the flower girl at the German wedding here years ago - I think she forgot how hot it was and then the rain that got everybody wet! I wonder if she wants a VFD tent on the hill?

Snow still coming down...might be some freezing rain mixed in with it. Well, might not snow Christmas day, but with major snow storms back to back, it'll definitely be a white Christmas in Vermont!

I knocked off work at noon today...slow drive home (50 miles) but fairly uneventful. Two cars off the road...one on it's roof.

My boss gave me a bottle of Crown Royal...one shot after I got home, a couple beers and than a nap (which is why I'm posting this late).

Today is our 21st Wedding Anniversary...fortunately, my step-daughter reminded me before my wife did!

My Daughter, now Doctor Newbury just called us and her SERIOUS boyfriend of about 3 or 4 years proposed today, Dec 22nd. No word on wedding yet because she was so excited. Must be love and commitment in the air.

Eric, you are so right about the sun.
Unfortunately, the 3 days prior and the day of the generator demise we only solar produced about 40% of use. While the generator ran, I only run back up to an acceptable level in hopes a good day of sun finishes the job. Of course that didn’t happen when the generator went out of commission about 3AM. Now the part where I can be my own worst enemy. Due to the great performance of my recently installed battery bank and the upgraded solar panels I had neglected maintenance on my 10kw military generator - basically I had let the batteries go dead, thinking I’d get to it eventually. Soooo, I get up Wed morning, the power level is low, the main generator kaput, no sun, and the back up generator dead. Only thing left is my little Honda EU2000. Cranking out just over 1kw charge it’s pretty much just survival mode. I didn’t dare try to steal power to charge the 24 volt battery system on the mil Gen. Yesterday, my dear wife convinced me the best solution was to bite the bullet and buy a bigger Honda. So now we are the proud, but poorer owners of a Honda EU7000, which is not big enough for the whole system does a great but slow job. This enabled me to charge the mil Gen batts, which were so down I had to charge them as individual 12 volt. Today I got them charged enough to fire up the generator - Yea. Today was also a decent sun day.
I did hear for the Mainland supplier of the big Genset who thinks they have the water pump in stock. Didn’t hear from him today so I’m guessing it won’t be until after Christmas. The challenges and joys of living off grid

Woke up thirsty and hungry and headache. Then thought, that sounds like rain. Checked weather app that says its pouring outside. Hard to hear it over the pellet stove noise.

Warm day today, should be mostly dry, then rain moving in tonight, and a wet week next week with little snow indicators in the forecast.
But then snow here is usually one inch...

Not sure what I'm doing today. Might go do a little more woods clearing. And need to bring in firewood and stock up.
49 degrees going to 71 today.

Roy congrats on your anniversary. Hope everyone else is doing ok and getting well for Christmas.

What with all the running around the past 2 days, I totally forgot to get a Christmas card for the step-sons Christmas present. (Keep in mind, I don't send Christmas cards, but buy them individually as needed.) I just throw a $100.oo bill in a card and be done with it. He can buy whatever he wants and I don't need to worry about whether or not he (a) likes the colour, (b) likes the fit or (c) whether or not the item actually works.
Also keep in mind the step son is 51 this year, so it isn't like I am throwing money at a child.
