Skidded out some white oak earlier this week: rps20171221_203946_427.jpg

I've got a couple of poplars and a dinky little elm to pull out tomorrow morning, and hopefully I'll get started on a big ash tree that blew over about 18 months ago. I've got it mostly bucked into reasonable logs, now I just need to figure out how to snake them up to the tractor trail.

Love white oak for burning. May not split as nicely as red but it burns better.

I cut and split a big round this morning. I could live without having to deal with pieces that size. IMG_0844.JPGIMG_0845.JPGIMG_0847.JPG

Agreed. Which is why I just don't bother messing with them. "Coarse woody debris" is great for wildlife, so if it isn;t nice enough to make a saw log, that stuff just gets left in the woods.

The only time I deal with logs that big is when our local "Woodbank" volunteers are splitting up wood to be donated to families in need in our area. There is always someone who says "yes" to a monster donated yard tree, and some of the volunteers seem to get a kick out of breaking it down.

We use to have a Wood Bank volunteer group before the days of burn bans... now, so much simply gets left to rot or the property owner pays for disposal... and a lot pay for disposal in city limits.

One of the Tree Guys would leave rounds in front of his rural property each night and by morning they would be gone... it was a win/win.

County shut it down a few years back because it encouraged wood burning... contrary to public policy.

I feel for you but I think you need let this issue go. I think it's eating you up from the inside..

Must of seen you bring this up in at least a dozen threads over the last few years. I agree, it seems bonkers but is it going to change?
Carry on, and I apologise for my unsolicited/unwanted opinion. :drink:

One way to look at it ..... We need a good reminder now and then about how far left state and local regs can go. Shudder to think it could happen where the rest of us live.
