Branson 3510 transmission cracked in half

Branson had the opportunity to be a hero, and they declined. In fairness to them, I think most manufactures would not extend good will coverage, but I'd hoped they would. Now the other question, do they have the parts in stock and is the new part any more robust?

Dealer said Branson will do nothing.

I understand what your going through. I bought a new 3510 this summer and have had endless problems with the BH and FEL, this has been going on since April and Branson just now got the poop together and got the parts to my dealer. I am very unhappy with Branson and will never buy another one of their machines again. Maybe the dealer will give you a good deal on a trade in. I hope it all works out in your favor, somehow.

I asked about a tradin. Dealer nor Branson would take the 3510 as is on trade.

I think they are missing an opportunity if they don't at least make you a trade-in offer. Then in the dead of winter they could fix it when the shop was slow. We will occasionally take in project trade-ins like that, but of course we don't give a lot in trades.

I have a 2810 same thing transmission cracked in half, talked so several people and tried to locate another one but only found four and all cracked in the same place on the bell housing, seems this is the week point on the tractor

Interesting on this site. Gotta watch the post date. Here's a reply to a 2012 thread and not doing that, I thought I'd jump into the conversation like it originated recently.

If any of you earlier guys are onboard here, any clues as to just how this "crack" develops? Any operator controllable mechanism to avoid? Just where is it located? Can you see it without dismantling anything?

I find this type of problem confusing with the Branson badge. That's one of the reasons I bought my 2nd. Plenty of iron in the things, looks like lots of over design reliability built in and they advertise cast iron where they say others use aluminum. Weight attests to that besides visual.

We have sold Branson since 2002, and we are currently #3 in the nation for Branson sales volume. So we have some experience. They changed the engine and bell housing in about 2006 when they went to the "I" models. The loader supports also changed. I think we had 2 or 3 failures on the early models, and I cannot recall a failure on a later model. Generally it happens if the loader bolts or supports that go rearward get loose. Those need to be checked, as the supports are important and if they are loose they are not supporting. Heavy three-point loads with a bouncing condition, like driving quickly over checks in a field would exacerbate the stress to the center of a tractor.

We have also replaced bell housings on New Hollands, Massey's and John Deere models in our shop. It is rare on all models, but if you go to a high volume dealer of about any brand and they are willing to tell you the truth, this is a rare event but it does happen every so often across all brands. I have often wondered if perhaps a casting somehow has a weak spot or a thin spot. Maybe they crank out 1000 castings and 1 just isn't up to speed?

The 2810 referenced above is a pre "I" model. I would think a bell housing could still be found and this could be rebuilt, but if you do it at a shop the cost of parts and labor are going to compete with what an older 2810 is worth. We had a JD 110 come in with a busted bell housing, and I think at JD, parts and labor were nearly $10k to have it fixed. We sold it to a guy in broken condition and he had it welded and it has held to this day. But as a shop I would not be comfortable doing that. But if it were my own tractor I might just give that a go.

Dave, I'm looking at some Bransons as my first tractor. I have test driven the new 3015. What's the differences between the 3510i and the 3515? According to specs online, the 3510 is 750lbs heavier, but the 3515 is a few inches longer. The 3510 has more PTO lift but slightly less loader capacity (both are impressive). Do you know what the "i" suffix means?

I'd suggest you start a new thread with your questions as they do not much relate to a 6 year old thread about a Branson bell housing failure. When you do, I think folks will chime in with answers. But briefly, the 3520 is larger and heavier in pretty much all dimensions, and it lifts more. The 15 series is a nice stout mid-size compact tractor, the 20 series is a notch up in about all areas. The 20 series is longer, but we do occasionally see specs that are wrong. Like perhaps the total length is calculated with the three point arms and grill guard on one tractor, and without on the other. Some goofy deal like that. But side to side, the 20 series is larger and more capable, and more expensive. All 20 series have been "i" models for over 10 years now, and that was started when they switched to Cummins style engines and went to a electric over hydraulic independent PTO. the "i" being "independent".

I'm slow to respond around the holidays as I'm not on the computer much, so my apologies.
