One thing I have started doing on new projects and some replacement hoses...is just buy straight end male pipe ends and use the female swivel fittings to make up the angles etc...the mechanical female swivel fittings are almost always cheaper than the alternative pressed on hose end fittings...also there is no sealant required as they are a mechanical joint like a JIC only a little sturdier IMO...

When using a hose the NPT male ends then attaching female swivels, what is the maximum working pressure of the assembly? I was thinking of doing this same setup with my towable boom lift, but it's relieved at 3500 psi and I seem to recall seeing the hose assemblies with screwed on fittings are rated lower than that. I'd LOVE to configure the hoses just as you mentioned, if it's safe.

Good question...I do not see a pressure rating on the individual fittings...What I consider an "assembly" is just the hose and the pressed ends...and I assume that if you buy hose that has a working pressure of 3500 psi that they would use ends rated for at least the listed hose pressure?

FWIW...I'd give DHH a call when they reopen after the holiday and ask...it sure makes ordering hoses simple and easy....and also makes for a clean, neat job...

One other thought...I have seen pressure washers with ratings of up to 4500psi that employ the mechanical female swivel fittings...

I too have used your excellent services and guides. Your help information has saved me some expensive lessons.


Now having said that folks may wish to check around at their local hydraulic shops. I found a good one after blowing a hose on my grapple and needing a replacement today. Prices were about what I could find online (few $$ more), but they happen to grantee their hoses for life to the original buyer. I even messed up on a measurement and needed one shortened and they did the crimping labor for free. Fitting price was OK too.

Its always good in most cases to shop local too. I have found folks will send you to another shop if they cant do it and if you say they sent you get a discount.

thnks guys ive had a quick glance at surp center hoses and discount as well... so many different kinds.. prices seem decent I just gotta look at the shipping that's usually what really hurts most of these online deals these days... those ups guys must live in castles or something

I just found Discount Hydraulic Hose and ordered a couple of Ford o-ring port adaptor ffitting for an old Backhoe . so far so good and I will use them again as long as Im not broke down
