Good morning all.
-10 and searching for a high of -2F. Wind W 6 mph. A chilly morning. No snow in the forecast.
The little u' darlin's are off school for another week. I certainly am glad that I have none in school anymore AND the other two live too far away to bother making the effort. The oldest and his wife are here with me. He is the more level headed of the three.
I have no plans until Jan. 8 when the Jeep goes into the shop to replace my perforated oil pan. According to the flat rate manual it should take 3.4 hours. But lets be realistic here. I've done enough work on motors over my younger years to realize that the flat rate manual and real life are very much different. For one, the exhaust manifold has never been off the motor and it is a 2001. The manifold must come off as the exhaust runs under the pan to cross over to the passenger side and exit. The original O2 sensors are in the manifold.
I am expecting the shop will have it for two days IF the head doesn't have to come off due to busted manifold studs. The quote was for $803.oo, but I have budgeted $1500.oo for the job due to the above reasons. If the head comes off then it will get new anti-freeze mixed to a ratio of 60/40. It will also get new Quaker State 5w30 full synthetic oil and filter.

COLD is right...Teens at night and many days won't get above freezing after today as far out as I can see.
Keeping the woodstove hot will be my priority. I've a pallet of split wood on my tractor that I'll bring up to the porch for a refill.

Poured first cup of coffee. -12° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 13° with chance of snow in afternoon.
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! it's cold out there.
Cleaned drive and walkway yesterday. So I do not have to go out in the cold today. No plans today except stay warm. Forecast calls for more below zero temperatures until sometime next year.
Need to design a dolly for chipper. It will not move without a pry bar under frame.
Kyle, you can use my post anytime. Stylus is for iPad. Wife likes her finger nails long enough to make typing on keyboard difficult. It's worse on a iPad and iPhone.
Eric, Holiday leftovers make me not wanting that meal again until next years Holidays.

Baby it's cold outside...
actually it's not, compared to some of you in the walk in freezer.
Shall I say a balmy 30 degrees going to 42 today.
Need to pick the rest of my collards in the garden; I think this week's cold temps will finish them off for good.
High winds blew over my crèche/manger at the end of the lane, think I'll just wrap it up for the year. Most folks here leave their lights on til New Years, though for me, it's a matter of what day is warmer and drier. I like the manger scene with the light above, but next year I need to use more hold downs.

16F now couple degrees more should be our high for the day,below zero every night least to Saturday.
Plans for today...do quick plowing of driveway 1 1/2" from last night,finally remove plow from pickup for a while,quick trip to town than putter rest of the day.

Heading back home from the lake today start up the tractor and clean the little snow on the hilly portion of the driveway, tried to talk daughters boyfriend into picking up a shovel don't think that worked out to well.
Riptide hope the wife is feeling a bit better today and Buckeye you are doing well.
Rye enjoy the day with family, I now that working holiday's make things a bit hard at times especially when the kids are young. Although I have had a few holiday meals with firefighters in my town when I worked holidays at the PD. Note to coffee drinkers most fire department coffee is great if your constipated clean you right out!
As you can see grandson loved his new John Deere, keeping it at gram pas house so he can ride it in my basement until summer.

40 degrees last night at midnight, came up to 42, now down to 41, but forecast to continue down to 34 by 9 a.m., with a 40% chance of rain. 9 a.m. is the time that I have to have my wife to a day surgery place to implant a device to try to relieve her back pain.
Even though it only got up to 40 degrees yesterday, the clear sunny windless skies made it quite comfortable outside in shirt sleeves.
Eric, I'm afraid I was raised the same way. I need to lose weight, but just can't hardly bring myself to throw away food. So, I, too, will be eating leftovers the next couple of days at least. We spent the day yesterday at a daughter's house, and I was in favor of not bringing ham, turkey, pies, candies, etc. home, but I got overruled by my wife and daughter.:laughing:
