This website a great resource for troubleshooting golf cart issues: Electric EZ GO RXV, Marathon, Medalist and TXT I had a 2 cycle ezgo for a few years and found the people there to be very helpful- they have different forums for gas, electric as well as other brands.

Agree 100%...this is the place to go for expert advice for an electric cart...and everything associated with them...hands down...!

I drove the cart around for awhile today, it scoots around good, it didn’t heat up as much today, I think I’m good, I put it on the charger after my trip.

For curiosity I will test how long it will run on these batteries when I have time.

Most likely I will sell the cart to my boss, he was wanting a golf cart and two of the batteries he has access to the same as I do so he can replace two of the three batteries every 3 years for free.

I just bought the cart to make money on it and wanted to see if I could do it which I did. If I get more batteries later this year I will be doing this again with another cart.

As another test. It's a good idea once the batteries are charged to put a voltmeter on them. That means all of them in series. For 36 Volt, it should be a little higher.

I worked with a fire alarm tech once that put a 6 volt wet cell in a string backwards. It charged up! But I think the equipment still didn't see the right voltage and was in trouble.

I will, I have a few connectors to replace still also so I’m not 100% done but happy and excited the cart works lol

I will be replacing my E-Gator batteries this spring. 48 Volt. Every now and then a friend gives me some almost new take out batteries from inverter systems. Usually two or four similar 6 volt ones. By spring I should have the other two I need to make up the 8, but am a little apprehensive about different batteries.

What's the worst that can happen?

Your battery pans look like either you were a tin knocker, or had one make them for you !

I would assume that the controller has a voltage regulator, or it is tapped into a 6V point somewhere in the battery system. Hopefully you haven't damaged the controller; you do NOT want to buy another controller - $$$.

I also have a '94 TXT style EZGo cart; similar but not identical to your '87. I replaced the 6 batteries last year with high-dollar 6V Trojan 105's. Worked super for about 6 months, but now they'll only hold a charge for about 2 miles of driving. At Trojan's prices, I won't be buying any more Trojans. I'd love to replace that 6 piece set with 3 - 12V batteries. Hope your switch works out. If it does, guess who else will be making that mod? Please keep us posted on what you find out.

I would charge them all and then put a load on (with a tester such as: Schumacher BT-1 1 amp Battery Load Tester, Battery Testers - Amazon Canada ) them and make sure that they "draw down" about the same after you put a load on them for 30 seconds or so.

I do HVAC so I had 26g sheet metal and S-Lock laying around, all the tools to make them so that’s what I came up with. It works, keeps the batteries from falling to the ground lol.

It works fine, you can’t just use regular car batteries, the big batteries I have retail for around $450 each, you may be able to find them cheaper, I only used them because I get them for free at 3 years old every three years from work so I have a few laying around. I have more money in 12v batteries in this cart than I could have replaced the 6v for, if they were bought new.

You might get away with a deep cycle marine 12v batteries or shell out for big D8 batteries like I have but regular car batteries won’t work, they will die too fast.

Duracell Commercial Battery - Group Size 8D - Sam'''s Club
Just found this, you can buy Duracell cheaper but one of these replaces 2 6v batteries so it’s not much of a saveings. Rural King has the 6v batts around $79 each I think
