Cordless Operated Power Tools - Your Favorite

My new favorites are the 18 volt Makita Sub-Compact drill driver and the impact driver. Small, light weight but powerful.

I always use ear protection with the impact driver, but of course that doesn't help the homeowners, neighbors, co-workers, family.

Every morning, I make sure that I have a pair of ear plugs in my front left pocket. I also have a bag of them in my truck. I wear them so much, and so long, that I sometime forget that I have them in while driving home.

Earplugs bother me so I use a pair of 3M hearing protectors with am/fm radio.

Well - I can sure tell you what NOT wearing anything does. I've always worn something when shooting firearms, otherwise - zippo. Now at 75 - low sounds or soft speech is difficult for me. It sounds like somebody has a mouth full of mush and is trying to speak. If its important that I DO understand - I've almost learned to read lips. At least it sure helps.

Moderate sounds or louder speech is no problem.

The military never stressed the importance of hearing protection and neither did any other employers. I'm just lucky to have any hearing left. Tinnitus is just beginning in one ear and can become quite loud and annoying.

NOTE: SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE ASKED ABOUT THE 18 TO 20 VOLT CONVERTER. It work on everything I have except 18 volt florescent. Causes the LED bulbs in my 18 volt flash lights to flicker. it is worth it. I will convert to the 20 volt battery run it with the 18 volt tools and replace with 20 volt tools when the 18 volts crap out. and for the dewalts I have damaged them more by dropping or getting lost than anything else.

Anyone have an opinion on Porter Cable? They have a line of 20v tools. I am needing a drill and impact driver. Likely will then start to add other tools if (as) needed.

No current experience with Porter Cable but back in the day...they were Heavy, so Heavy. My wrists and forearms were sore always sore and Lord help you if you had to work over your head. Hopefully, they have improved.

Used to be a good brand, but they went to China and it's on par with Black and Decker, Ryobi, Rockwell, and Skil. I call them Walmart tools.

I've kind of settled in on Ryobi 18v ones. Someone here referred to them as Walmart tools, but I'd consider them mid-grade. Nice thing is that the newer batteries are compatible with the older tools unlike so many other manufacturers.
I've always thought Makita was over-rated. Decent tools to be sure, but no better than Milwaukee or DeWalt IMHO.

On a Farm, cordless is the only way to go whenever possible!

Agreed. It's rare that I'll dig out a corded tool if I have a cordless equivalent.
15 years ago, maybe not but they've come a long way since then.

They do It's hit or miss I got nails , saw blades a couple of other things got 20% off. It depends off the cashier some times it works some times not. It has to be the color coupon not the black and white

What made you think to try a HF coupon at HD? What store was it?
