craftsman tools lifetime warranty

Stanley bought them a year ago (Jan 5th, 2017). The details make it sound even worse than a typical acquisition. This sounds like they are whoring the brand name by allowing multiple companies to use it and sell it everywhere.

I also recall that, but thought it was the Stanley/DeWalt consortium that purchased the brand.
Perhaps the anti combines laws entered the picture and the sale was annulled.

Stanley probably bought Craftsman with the agreement to let sears continue because that was the only way to get it cheap and before anyone else. And they KNOW that sears won't be around long enough to matter anyway.

Decades ago, I bought a set of Sears screwdrivers with the hex at the base of the steel shaft along with several Whitworth 3/8" drive sockets (Sears used to stock BSW tools). I believe it was a 6 screwdriver set. I soon lost one of the more popular screwdrivers sizes. I was back at the same store (Waukegan, Illinois) sometime later and mentioned the loss to the clerk in the tool department. He quickly procured a new screwdriver set and handed it to me saying, "Sorry for the problem". I was not even asked for the original receipt or other proof of purchase. Wasn't too long after that I noticed a new clerk in the tool department.

My brother has the BSW sockets which he uses on his 70s vintage Triumph T100 Daytona motorcycle. The screwdrivers are long gone.

I worked with a guy who had a Craftsman 25' tap measure. When you work construction they are always breaking. From just being dropped to getting caught in a spinning saw blade because you tried to measure the next piece too quickly. Sears would always swap them out free of charge. Have no clue if theat's the case anymore.

Told once and that is that... for a brief period they would give you the "Tape" to change out yourself.

I vaguely recall having something like that once, though I think it was a brand other than Craftsman. What a PITA!! Definitely a "4 hand" job holding everything together without it exploding while you re-assembled it. Once was enough!

Had several problems taking sockets that have broken back. never have in stock or they don't make it in the same "point" anymore so they want to give you something different. Been buying harbor freight PRO line and some of their other tools and have had great luck. Haven't had may problems at all. Broke one socket and took it in and the guy said grab another and that was it. Quick and easy, no problems or questions asked!

Had a broken snap-on and the jobber would not exchange it... said I did not buy from him.

True enough, my Grandfather bought them and gave them to me.

All in all Sears has has a good run on the guarantee side of things... but I guess all things come to and end.
