Snow Equipment Owning/Operating Pictures of your snow weapons

Here's my snow weapon. Fortunately or unfortunately it's still parked in the weeds this winter and I don't have a picture of it at work. This time last year we were buried, this year we've had maybe 2" of snow. It's based on an '83 Chevy one ton and the blower is hydraulically powered by a small block V8 mounted in the bed. The truck itself is powered by a 454. It runs through fuel real quick with a total of 804 cubic inches of Chevy V8's sucking up the gas.

Looks like fun :D
Do the outriggers to lift the whole thing up off of the ground? It looks like it has a hoist like on a forklift to lift the blower up, is that correct?

We recieved 9" through the day so I figured I'd get a jump on things last night. The wind was still whipping around so I waited till this am to finish. If you hang in long enough you'll see the house up my steep driveway. Storms like these reminds me why I need a heated cab. :D

Hope you don't get much freezing rain...bobsled run.

I was out snow blowing about 4-6" and some drifts up to 8-9" with my little Economy Power King with a single stage 4' blower. The wind was straight up wicked. No matter which way I angled the chute, I got snow back in my face.

Ordering some ski goggles now, actually.

Here it is just before I attached the blower to the mule drive/hydraulic lift setup. Needs rear ballast but otherwise does a pretty good job for a 12hp machine.

Aaron, yes, the outriggers are intended to lift the whole thing up for installing chains or changing tires in the snow and yes again, the blower is lifted with a forklift type of mechanism. I didn’t build this machine, just ended up owning it. We don’t get county snow removal on the roads in my neighborhood so over the years we’ve acquired a pretty good arsenal of privately owned snow removal equipment.

I use tinted ski google...really cuts down on the glare

Hey Roy,

How are they at night? Most of the time we get a storm during the week, I'm out moving snow after work at around 6pm, so it's dark out by then.

I don't use them at night...I have a cabbed tractor. I got them more for glare than anything else. Although I do clear snow after dark...mostly do the work during daylight hours.
Anyway, they're an amber tint...so I think they'd be OK. They are designed for folks who wear glasses (I do), so you could buy a clear goggle and wear sun glasses under them (but unless the sun glasses are wraparound, you still get the glare from the sides.

There are so many different ski goggle lenses you can get any tint you want, including clear. And a good idea, if you plan to use the goggles a lot, is to get one that can easily interchange lenses. Years ago I found a pair of Smith goggles on closeout sale, and then went online and saw lenses were available. I got 4-5 different tints, to cover everything from night skiing to bright sunlight to flat light (common in many places out west and a challenge to ski in).

For wind protection (without a cab), a snowmobile helmet works great. (IMO)
